[hand drawing] Equipment Now that you've landed it's time to take inventory and decide what you'll need in the line of wearing apparel,. Hmmm .... new people, new places, and casual atmosphere. Why, those clothes from high school days will fit right in ! It's still warm in September, but we rush the season and pull out wool skirts and sweaters right way. They'll take you almost everywhere, just kick off those bobby socks and sneakers worn to class, slip on some flats, and you're ready for that evening date. If the weather turns a bit to the warm side, a crisp blouse and leather belt is definitely appropriate, and probably more comfortable too. Matches outfits always come in handy. especially when you want to look a wee bit special for that certain guy who is calling for you at eight. For protection against the elements better pull out that well worn rain coat and heavier wrap for colder days. That gay blazer may be just the thing for Saturday's football game when the sun starts to dip behind the stadium walls. Scarves, mittens and umbrellas are extremely utilitarian in nature, as are those snow boots which will carry you through winter drifts. A basic wool dress or suit will take you to Sunday dinner, church, and teas. If of a versatile nature it will be all the better as you can change accessories to match your mood. When all-University dances roll around, its time for that cocktail dress. Whether straight or full, bright or subdued, it makes no difference, for with those high heeled party shoes, you'll have an equally good time skimming across the dance floor to the music of your favorite band. Rarely, if ever, is strictly formal attire to be seen at Iowa. With comfort and simplicity claiming the fashion spotlight, all have need for informal wear. Bermudas, slacks, and jeans come in handy for picknicking or lounging and you may well welcome the presence of a short jacket with the onset of wintry blasts. In contrast, a flood of sunshine sends girls scurrying to don bathing suits for some off season sunning. 9
