Selection of the actual Committee members occurs each April by means of nominations submitted by each campus housing unit. At this time three freshmen, four sophomores, and five juniors are chosen and assume officer the next fall. Subcommittee members are picked in similar fashion in September or October. It must be must noted that a student interested in such a position who is not nominated by his or her housing unit may still submit an application by securing the signatures of twenty students. In total, CPC employs directly the service of approximately sixty-five students. However, this organization is not completely autonomous and often joins hands with other campus groups to present such traditional University functions as the Homecoming Dance, Dad's Day Concert and Spinster's Spree. [hand drawing to right] DRAMATICS AND SPEECH As official thespian or strictly amateur a yen for the excitement of the theatre may carry you across the river to the University Theatre Whether you prefer acting, set designing, costuming, or lighting there's opportunity awaiting you. Try-outs will be announced regularly in The Daily Iowan. Experience with the media of radio and television may be gained through work at WSUI, the University's radio station, and our closed-circuit television facilities in the Old Armory. If you want to further your abilities in the field of speech don't hesitate to inquire about the Forensics Association. Here you can participate in intercollegiate tournaments for debate, discussion, original oratory, and interpretive and extemporaneous speaking. PUBLICATIONS Greeting you five out of seven mornings a week over the breakfast table will be the SUI newspaper, The Daily Iowan. Published in conjunction with the School of Journalism by students here on campus, it gives you complete, up-to-the-minute news coverage. Among its sources are national wire services and student reporters who are always on the lookout for interesting happenings in and around 20
