Free to choose their own selections from a wide variety of tunes, the participating housing units are judged on tone, pitch, diction, stage presence, and choice of songs by a panel of music directors from surrounding towns. Responsible for planning and publicizing the event is the University Sing Committee, selected each spring through applications. CODE FOR COEDS You've already heard about another phase of AWS work - Code for Coeds. By means of this booklet, AWS wants to welcome you and help you prepare for life at SUI. It may serve as a handy reference book, too, as you seek your place on campus. We hope Code for Coeds helps you find and fill this special niche. STATE DAY You'll reach SUI just in time for AWS State Day, which will be held on our campus this fall. Every year the six Iowa schools which have AWS groups get together for a day to exchange ideas and renew enthusiasm. As hostess school, SUI will plan and make all arrangements for this year's meeting. Our AWS State Day Committee will choose a theme for the conference, plan panel discussions, speakers, and invitations, and handle the million small details which make an undertaking like this so exciting. If you'd like to help with these details, meet other coeds from all over Iowa, and participate in an inspiring day's program,, check into the State Day Committee's activities. STUDENT COURT OF APPEALS AWS has the honor of selecting the only female member of the SUI Student Court of Appeals. One of five justices, the AWS representative helps rule on appeals for violations of University traffic regulations. The Court also governs the legality of all-campus elections (it is part of the judicial branch of the Student Council), hearing charges of election irregularities, discrepancies and procedural errors. Whether you use the Court to appeal a violation or aspire to the job of woman justice, you'll find this institution a respected and useful part of AWS. 27
