Huit Dean of Students State University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa Dear Mr. Huit: The enclosed clipping didn't exactly make me, "proud of what you stand for dear Old Gold." I would never object to the student's right to protect. As you may well recall, I sometimes protested during my own student days, but always in a respectable manner. In fact, you and I got to be friends by agreeing to sometimes disagree. However, I never marched in the streets, created a public disturbance or defied a federal law . This student is a disgrace to the University of Iowa. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, but I would hate to believe my alma mater would award a degree to such an individual. The incident is far different than a student sneaking a six-pack into a dormitory or a 20-year-old buying a beer in Solon. Now that I have stated my opinions on the incident, I would be interested in knowing what the University's attitude is toward this student, and toward students creating similar incidents in the future. Sincerely, Lerry Alkire Class of 1955 9052 N. Cumberland Apartment 2E Niles, Illinois LA.rj enc. AN IRVING CLOUD PUBLICATION FOR: AUTOMOTIVE JOBBERS, WAREHOUSE DISTRIBUTORS AND THEIR SALESMEN
