POLICIES RELATED TO DISCRIMINATION IN OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Dean Huit 4/20/60 As a policy, the University will not list or approve a householder unless he agrees to take all students regardless of race, etc. If it is found that discrimination exists, the house will be removed from the approved list for the following semester. 4/20/60 Dean Suit The State University of Iowa takes the position that in no phase of its educational program should there be differences in the treatment of persons based upon factors of race, religion or national origin. This principle is expected to be observed in the admission, education and housing of students, in policies governing programs of extracurricular activities of students, and in the employment of faculty and staff personnel. The University must view with regret and disapproval any practices resulting in restrictions of educational or social opportunity which are based upon racial, religious or nationality grounds. At the same time the University also takes the position that social groups should be free to select their own members, such selection to be based upon individual merit. The University expects all organized groups associated with it in any way to cooperate in the support of the above statement of principle and to work earnestly toward its full realization at the earliest possible date.
