STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA NEW CHAPTER - CODE OF STUDENT LIFE Effective February 21, 1963 CHAPTER III HUMAN RIGHTS I. GENERAL UNIVERSITY POLICY "The State University of Iowa brings together in commun pursuit of its educational goals persons of may nations,races, and creeds. The University if guided by the precept that in no aspect of its programs shall there be differences in the treatment of persons because of race, creed, color, or national origin and that equal opportunity and access to facilities shall be available to all. This principle is expected to be observed in the admission, housing, and education of students; in policies governing programs of extra curricular life and activities; and in the employment of faculty and staff personnel. The University shall work cooperatively with the community in furthering this principle. " II. COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS The Committee on Human Rights composed of three University staff members, one of whom shall be Chairman; two University students; and two alumni who reside in Iowa City, shall be appointed by the President of the University. The Committee shall have the following duties: 1. To hear complaints of discrimination on the basis of race color, creed , or national origin and to investigate such complaints with full rights of being heard being extended to all parties concerned. 2. By fact finding and education to work toward the elimination of discrimination against members of the University community. The Committee may use the services of the Dean of Students and his staff in this endeavor.
