Nondiscrimination Policy Statement for State College of Iowa Believing that the freedom of an individual should in no way be restricted or circumscribed because of race, national origin, or religious beliefs, the administration of the State College of Iowa pledges its unqualified endorsement and support of the Nondiscrimination Policy Statement adopted by the Iowa State Board of Regents on September 25, 1964. The administration of the State College of Iowa also pledges its compliance with Iowa Fair Employment Practices and Public Accommodation laws and the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 and its cooperation with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. The State College of Iowa recognizes a responsibility to observe the spirit as well as the letter of the federal and state laws regarding discrimination. It is the intent of the college not only to avoid policies and practices which tend to deny opportunity to, or to deprecate or denigrate, any individual or group because of race, color, creed or national origin, but also to work actively to provide opportunities for disadvantaged individuals. Specifically, it shall be the policy of the State College of Iowa not to discriminate among individuals or groups on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry in the following: I. Personnel Policies for Staff Employment, assignment, retention, advancement and promotion of any member of its staff: faculty, administrative, clerical , student personnel or physical plant. In all such matters, the criteria shall be the competency and promise of increasing effectiveness of the individual as determined by such things as education and training, experience and adeptness, industry and reliability, intelligence and leadership, health and vigor, and initiative. The wages paid and the fringe benefits to which one is entitled, his rate of promotion and all other personnel practices shall in no way be dependent upon race, color. creed or nationality. All staff members with administrative responsibilities are expected to be able to assure the President of the college that their policies of employment, assignment, retention, advancement and promotion and consonant with the above statement and that their practices conform to these policies. II. Placement Bureau The Placement Bureau makes its services available on an equal basis to the students and graduates of this college without discrimination as to race, color, creed or nationality. The placement papers neither require nor invite the registrant to indicate race, color, creed, or nationality. If a prospective employer specifies a preference for an applicant of a particular race, color, or creed, the Director of the Placement Bureau and his staff will inform the employing official that the Bureau does not keep such data on its registrants.
