Nondiscrimination Policy Page four G. Student Organizations 1. Honor Societies The requirement for membership in all honor groups and the actual practices of such groups do not discriminate in any way on the basis of race, color, creed, or national origin. 2. Student Religious Organizations Student religious organizations are open to all students. They shall not deprive any student of the right of membership, attendance at meetings, or any activity because of creed, race, or national origin. 3. Student Social Organizations While membership in student social organizations is selective, race, color, creed, or national origin are not acceptable bases for withholding membership nor for depriving any member of equal rights in the organization. A social organization may limit its membership to foreign students or to those from a particular region. In choosing its members, however, the organization may not deprecate or denigrate, either by policy or practice, any group or individual because of race, color, creed or national origin. A social organization, affiliating with a national association, may not surrender its present or future right to choose its own members in a manner consistent with the non-discriminatory policy of the college. A social organization will be considered to be in violation of the college non-discriminatory policies if it professes to accept students for membership without discriminating on the basis of race, color, creed, or national origin and yet includes in its rituals statements or acts that tend to deprecate or denigrate persons of a particular race, color, creed or national origin, or statements or acts that cannot in good conscience be endorsed or accepted by persons of certain creeds, races, colors, or nationalities. H. The Dean of Students shall report any violations of the above to the President of the College. IV. Use of College Facilities and Services by off-campus groups The college has established policies concerning the use of college facilities and services by off-campus groups. The decision as to whether such facilities or services may be used is based on the degree to which the use of the facility or service would facilitate or hamper the instructional or co-curricular program of the college. Such decision is made without reference to the race, color, creed, or national origin of the group. However, the college denies the use of its facilities and services to any group to use in the furtherance of any action or practice that is in violation of the non-discriminatory policy statement of the Iowa State Board of Regents, the Iowa Fair Employment Practices and Public Accommodation laws and the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964.
