Annual Report of the Human Rights Committee of the University of Iowa for the academic year 1966-1967 The University of Iowa Human Rights Committee held eight meetings during the academic year 1966-1967. The following is a resume of its activities: (1) No student, staff, or faculty complaints of discrimination against themselves were received and processed by the committee. This was not felt by the committee to be due to lack of discrimination only but also due to lack of publicity concerning the committee's existence and to the cumbersome procedure for redress when a case of discrimination occurs. (2) Investigation was made of the asking of religious preference on application forms for admission and for student jobs. The committee requested that these questions be eliminated from all forms. (3) At the request of Vice-President Boyd, the committee took up the task of developing a "Nondiscrimination Policy Statement" for the university. Professor Donald Carr drafted such a statement, which is enclosed with this report. The section of this statement concerning the processing of "Complaints of Discrimination", pp. 7-12 was felt by the committee to be too cumbersome. However, the committee has not had time to revise it, and would pass this responsibility on to the new committee as a matter to which it should give its immediate attention.
