State University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa Business and Industrial Placement Office 102 Old Dental Building March 29, 1965 Professor Richard Lloyd-Jones Department of English 101H University Hall Iowa City, Iowa Dear Dr. Lloyd-Jones: Thank you for your thoughtfulness in sending me the brochure concerning the employment of negroes with the General Electric Company. This year I am chairman of the Midwest College Placement Association Committee designated to help negro colleges in their placement function. We have only two in our area, Wilburforce in Ohio and Lincoln University in St. Louis. In January, however, at the invitation of Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, I went down to spend a day with them. I was very much impressed with the quality of the young people on the staff there and thoroughly convinced that if a deserving individual has an opportunity to bring his educational attainments anywhere near the level of requirements for employment, that there are many industries anxious to employ them. I think it is up to all of us to help these colleges who have been doing such an admirable job under their current circumstances. I am going to write the General Electric Company to send one of these copies to the Placement Officer at Lane College. Thank you very much. Sincerely yours, [actual Signature] Helen M.
