rec'd 11-16-95 Committee on Human rights 1994-95 Final Report for the Faculty Council and Senate During the 1994-95 term, the Human Rights Committee performed the routine duties of responding to complaints (two) and choosing a designer for the Hubbard Award. One of the complaints was rather vague so the committee requested the complainant clarify some issues and file a formal complaint. The formal complaint was received and acknowledged, but the complainant did not request any action from the committee. The second complaint was an issue that needed to be handled by other grievance procedures available to the complainant. The committee determined that the annual Philip G. Hubbard Award recipient should be Don L. Davis. Other issues that were spoken to by the committee were: getting an update on the recommendations that were sent to the President by the Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Staff and Faculty Association, reviewing student disabilities and the classroom environment and efforts to make the committee more visible in the university community. The update on recommendations from the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Staff and Faculty Association came from Provost Nathan in a letter. The letter stated that Provost Nathan felt some of the issues had been addressed and that the recommendation had also been forwarded to the Task Force on Diversity. Donna Chandler, coordinator of Student Disability Services, spoke to the committee about student disabilities and how they are accommodated in the classroom environment. The efforts to make the committee more visible within the university community consisted of committee members making presentations, a newspaper article in the Press-Citizen, and the association with the Hubbard Award.
