After campus anti-war protests in 1968 the Faculty Senate set up a committee to investigate the efforts of ROTC, secret research, and government funding on educational priorities. It hasn't done anything. The membership of the committee is revealing, John Wahlke, chairman, was receiving a quarter million dollar grant from A.I.D to research the "political attitudes of youth as a factor in economic development." This kind of research has been used for counter insurgency by the government. Edward Nelson, Associate Head of Physics and Astronomy. This department is dependent on two million dollars a year from NASA. (NASA will not do business with universities that bar military recruiters). Waltor Krausc, who had almost 20 years of work for the State Dept. including consultation with the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic during the Trajillo dictatorship. Burns Woston, a consultant to the Naval War College. Another committee formed in the Liberal Arts Dept. to investigate ROTC was headed by Dean Stuit, who had that year received the Pentagon Award for promoting ROTC on campus. Good [?] The University also serves a ruling class by running a 'pig institute' - the Bureau of Police Sciences. The Law Enforcement courses, taught by Professor Robert Caldrell of Sociology, supposedly give cops a more liberal, civilized outlook. But in effect they only make the cops' function smother, more sophisticated. Major functions of police in this society are to break strikes, keep the ghetto in a state of colonialism through day to day terror and smashing ghetto rebellions, busting
