8 HEAD COUNSELOR "He's coming...are you ready Mr. Lincoln?" MR. LINCOLN "I am ready." HEAD COUNSELOR "Ready Readers?" 3RD READER "I should like to ask for a twenty minute break when he's finally placed. Allow him to grasp his new surroundings and gather his wits." HEAD COUNSELOR "Mr. Lincoln?" (putting the question to him) MR. LINCOLN "Please I have nothing to fear. My conscience rests well with me." Slowly the attendants opens the casket and Mr. X. props himself up. Here he will speak and remain until the end of the act. 3RD READER "He's a little groggy yet...that embalming fluid never did anybody any good...he looks well for his ordeal." Malcolm continues to stir...stretches a bit...feels his arms...spins head about...wipes eyes...everyone watches him. MR. X. "I'll be damn...it looks like a Klans meeting, and I know I am dead. I had been close before; but somehow, a man knows the exact moment of his death. Hell, it wasn't all that bad."
