27 ACT III ______ SCENE I The next day As the curtain opens, it reveals the same scene as yesterday minus the casket and platform for same. Mr. X is now seated next to the 3rd Reader. As the scene opens the Head Counselor hurries to his seat. HEAD COUNSELOR "Readers, are you ready?" UNISON "Ready." 3RD READER "Ready." HEAD COUNSELOR "Mr. Lincoln?" MR. LINCOLN "Ready." HEAD COUNSELOR "Mr. X?" MR. X. "Ready." 3RD READER "Yesterday, you were partly asked about Mr. X's birthright. We don't invite your answer now but we would like to quote and reveal through your words your pragmatic, compromising nature. On January 4, 1854, did you not say..."Before proceeding, let me say that I think I have no prejudice against the Southern people.
