To qualify for continued registration, each organization must file a written annual report of its activities before the close of each school year. C. Any dispute between student organizations concerning powers and jurisdiction may be submitted to the Committee on Student Life for adjudication. V. Proposed Organizations A. Membrership Policy. Any new organization applying for recognition at the State University of Iowa must show to the satisfaction of the Committee on Student Life that it can, without question, exercise the right of freely selecting its members, using as criteria the merits of the individual person irrespective of race, color, or national origin. B. Application for Recognition. Each new student organization hereafter proposed must apply for recognition at the Office of Student Affairs. It is advisable to discuss preliminary plans with the student organization advisers in that office in advance and to procure the necessary application forms. At the time of its application the proposed group must file— 1. A copy of its constitution and bylaws, 2. A list of its officers and faculty advisers, 3. Such other information as may be deemed pertinent, 4. Organizations sponsored by a college or department must present a letter of approval from the dean of the college or head of the department. C. Standards for Proposed Organizations. Each application must show that the proposed student organization conforms to each of the following standards: 1. That its purposes are compatible with the educational objectives of the University. 2. That it will serve an area of student activities not served by an existing organization or organizations. [23]
