NOVEMBER 11, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. ALLYN & SHUMAN, Sister-act:- 9 min. in 1. 3 shows. Two women. This is only a fair vocal act. The girls dress well, but they are limited to a knowledge of singing. Each selection got but a weak hand. The close, with the red, white and blue costume, with "the kind applause" song, saved the act. Closed weak. THE THREE LEIGHTONS, Comedy & Voc:- 18 min. F. S. close in 1. 3 shows. Three boys, two working comedy. Open with a scene in hotel bed-room. The comedy is fair, the song a little better. The close in 1 is good, introducing some excellent eccentric dancing. This last got a strong hand, making an acceptable finish. McMAHON'S MINSTREL MAIDS & WATER MELON GIRLS:- 20 min. F.S. Open in 2. 2 shows Well known act on the Circuit. Practically the same as was presented here before, but introduced some new songs. Being a Philadelphia act, it will draw better than it would otherwise. Closed well, with three curtain calls. ARTHUR WHITELAW, "Celtic Humorist":- 14 min. in 1. 2 shows. Delivered about the same line of stuff as previously. Got a good many scattered laughs and once in a while applause. Closed very well after two songs which were good. JEAN MARCEL'S PICTURES:- 25 min. F.S. 2 shows. Second week. These pictures are just as strong this week as last. There were several changes. The new list included "Achille", "Les Marins", "Appolon", and "Spirit of '76". Strong applause after each picture. BASQUE QUARTETTE, Voc:- 14 min. in 1. 2 shows. Four excellent singers, one woman and three men, in very picturesque French peasant costume. Sang four or five selections, receiving strong applause after each one. The soprano is splendid. Closed big. One of the best foreign quartettes in the business. Could hold a good spot on any bill. FELIX & CAIRE, "Just Kids":- 20 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. These are two mighty clever children. Opens their act with a little scene in a parlor where two kids are left alone by their parents. They proceed to amuse themselves by dressing up and giving imitations of well known stage celebrities. The imitations are remarkably well given considering the age of the children. The boy is particularly clever with his sprightly dancing. Got strong hand through out and closed big. These little people have a great future. BRANSBY WILLIAMS, "Dickens' Characters":- 26 min. F.S. 2 shows. This man is a great artist and his act is very high-class and interesting. Each impersonation of Dickens' characters seemed to be very life-like and adhered to the traditions of the novelist's favorite illustrators. The MacCawber and the Miser were particularly strong. Think that he will draw business with the orchestra crowd. Act a little over the heads of the gallery, but wins big with the better class of patrons. Press very enthusiastic this morning. GENARO & BAILEY, S. & D.:-13 min. in 1. 2 shows. Good advance hand. Well known. One of the best singing and dancing acts in one in Vaudeville. Miss Bailey makes a stunning appearance in white, afterwards changing to black costume. Songs are well chosen, and Genaro's eccentric dancing is exceptional. The cake-walk finish is immense and got two curtain calls. The work entitles him to a very much better place on bill. It is strong in novelty and he thoroughly understands his business. He is very well worth giving encouragement. Received the best applause of any three-a-day act that we have on the bill, and that is saying a good deal, for our three-a-day section is particularly well fortified this week. GENERAL REMARKS:- This is a strong show and one in which the press and public agree is a winner. It is certainly a stronger show than the opposition, even with Louis Mann thrown in. BRANSBY WILLIAMS is as strong in his line as Mae de LUSSAN was in hers last week. MARCEL is holding his own.
