141 (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of Dec. 23, 1907. (Monday Dec. 23--Afternoon Show) Overture. 1.30, 8 min. "The Village Orchestra"; great for a holiday week. Slater and Williams. On at 1.38, 12 min, in 1, 3 shows. Very good two-men coon act, their dancing being their stronghold. As is rarely the case, the comedian is better than the straight man. Frederick and "Don". On at 1.50, 5 min full stage, 12 min close in 1; 17 min in all; 3 shows. This is one of the handiest acts I know of, for, if necessary, it can work entirely in 1. "Don" is a remarkably pretty pony and is worked capitally by his trainer. At the price, $125, this act should never have an idle moment, for it will draw enough children in any town it plays to pay its salary twice over. Five Majors. On at 2.07, 13 min, full stage. This act did very well for us today, better than I expected from reports I had read. While it is not a great act, still it is out of the ordinary and is thoroughly entertaining. The showy military uniforms make a very pleasing innovation. If their singing was a little better they would rank very much higher. Mabelle Adams. On at 2.20, 13 min, in 1. "The Waif Violinist". She is very pretty and makes a most attractive appearance, but seems to have difficulty in playing on the pitch. Some of her tones today were very sour. The Zanettos. On at 2.33, 10 min full stage, 3 min close in 1; 13 min in all. A rattling good juggling act, which scored heavily. "Little Hip". On at 2.46, 9 min, full stage. This clever little elephant is going to be a sensation in this town, for this is his first visit here. He is one of the greatest newspaper propositions we have ever had. His trainer is delighted to do anything to be of service. Corinno. On at 2.55, 14 min, in 1. At four hundred dollars per week Corinne is an over-ripe lemon. At one fifty she would be O.K. or nearly so. Never again at this figure. If I had her in any other bill than this I would feel even worse, but she gets by with the kid audiences fairly well. Urbani and Son. On at 3.09, 8 min, full stage. Repeated the hit they made last week. One of the most remarkable acrobatic acts we have ever played. Leo Carrillo. On at 3.17, 12 min, in 1. Carrillo holds this spot exceedingly well, with his stories and imitations. His personality contributes considerably to his success. Felix and Caire. On at 3.29, 15 min full stage, 5 min close in 1; 20 min in all. An absolute knock-out. Seldom have I seen an act make the hit in this house that this one scored. Two phenomenally clever youngsters, the boy being particularly so. 3 show. An excellent marionette act. Cuts:- Harrigan. "Sounds like L". Comment. An almost ideal holiday show. The only changes that I would care to make if I could do so, would be to substitute acts in the places of Corinne and Mabelle Adams. 141
