190 From JANUARY 20, 1908. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. BLACK & MILLER:- 14 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:08. this is a Philadelphia act and has played us three times, always with success. Miller got his training in the Herrmann Institute in this building. He has had a little trouble getting the right sort of a partner, but every time he has made a change it has been for the better. As it is now, the act is very much all right and although we use it as an opener, it could hold a much better spot on the bill. The comedy work of Black is good and his acrobatic work is also O.K. Miller is one of the best somersault acrobats in the business. The people liked them and the boys received good applause HILL & HILL:- Colored S. & D.:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:22. A good swift coon act with some bright talk. Songs are well chosen and delivered in a very sprightly manner. The man is a good deal of a comedian in facial contortion. This act proved very much better than we thought it would. JULIA REDMOND & CO:- Substituted in place of BYRON & LANGDON.- 23 min. F.S. On at 7:34. FENTELLE & CARR:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:57. One works -tramp after the style of Nat wills, the other costumed as Station Agent. Line of talk is breezy although a little coarse at times. Carry their own drop representing a flat car on a side track. The vocal work is good and gets applause. The tramp winds up the act with some good eccentric dancing Strong applause at the finish and two curtain calls. ALSACE & LORRAINE, Musical:- 18 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:12. Man and woman. This is a very showy act, the stage-setting being novel and brilliant. Play Saxaphone, xylophones, 'cello, violin, musical pipes, etc, including some vocal work. The trick violin playing of the man gets a good hand. Miss Lorraine plays very well on the bag-pipes and the finish of the act with tenor solo, accompanied by musical pipes won a big hand. Closed was strong with curtain call. NICHOLS SISTERS:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:30. Advance hand. Well known act. New line of amusing talk and songs. Made their usual hit. Laughter and applause throughout. Very strong finish with three curtain calls. Carry their own drop of Southern plantation scene.- LINA MARRDER & Horse:- 15 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:45. Advance hand. This is a very showy act. Mme Marrder knows how to present her act in a most brilliant style, although the stunts of the horse are not so wonderful. The horse is a very beautiful animal, doing the regulation feats of marching, dancing,- etc, to good applause. Finishes with a brilliant butterfly dance with stereoptican lights, making an effective finish. CARRIE De MAR, "Lonesome Fluffy Ruffles":- 21 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:00. Advance hand. Three changes of costume, all of them very pretty. Makes a charming picture, especially as "Fluffy Ruffles" in the "lonesome song". Each one of her songs received good applause. Assisted by a "stall" in the gallery who adds somewhat to the act. Big hand and three curtain calls after the champagne song which is rich in humor. LONNIE FOLLETT:- Imitations:- 15 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:53. Imitations of Vesta Tilley, Vesta Victoria, Anna Held, Albert Chevalier, which were fair, and each one got mild applause. The lad will make his mark all right, but just at the present time he cannot more than hold an obscure spot.- GENERAL REMARKS: BYRON & LANGDON were cancelled owing to illness. This upset the bill for Monday, but on Tuesday the program was re-arranged and JULIA REDMOND & COMPANY were substituted. The hits of the bill were ROMANY OPERA COMPANY, R. G. KNOWLES, CARRIE De MAR, MAREENA, NEVEARRO & MAREENA, all in their order. The ROMANY OPERA COMPANY will be undoubtedly our strongest drawing-card. It is really a very strong bill from every standpoint.- CUTS & OBJECTIONS:- HILL & HILL (Colored):- Joke about "white woman marrying me," etc.)-
