235 (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of February 24, 1908. (Monday Feb 24--Afternoon Show) Overture. 1.30, 11 min. Keene and Adams. On at 1.41, 19 min, in 2; 3 shows. Man and woman who make a neat appearance, although why he wears a Pierrot costume is beyond my comprehension. Excellent singers and graceful dancers. the principal things lacking in the act seem to be action and ginger. The people are clever enough to do far better work. With their present act I do not think they could hold better than the number two spot anywhere. Dora Ronca. On at 2 o'clock, 10 min, in 1; 3 shows. Might well be named "The Couchee Violiniste". Plays her audience better than she does her violin, but got there in good shape this afternoon. Makes a pleasing stage picture, and apparently knows that she looks remarkably well in red stockings. Minnie Kaufmann. On at 2.10, 10 min, full stage. "The Cycliste Supreme". Easily the best act of its kind in show business. She is a remarkable rider, possesses a lot of magnetism, and makes up most attractively. Would like to give her a better place on the bill. The Village Choir. On at 2.20, 16 min, in 1. Better than ever, and one of the big hits of the show. Always welcome here. Ruth Allen and Co. On at 2.36, 24 min, full stage. Playing "We Need the Money", rather a crude sketch, which could be much better played. It seems rather amatuerish, but the people are bright and neat-looking and succeeded in getting a number of laughs and considerable applause this afternoon. I do not think it will ever develop more speed. Mayme Remington and Her "Black Busters". On at 3 o'clock, 15 min, in 1. This act made its usual hit today. Nearly all of the songs and much of the business new since last season. Miss Remington has made this a standard act by keeping it thoroughly uptodate. Chinko. On at 3.15, 11 min, full stage. If he did everything he attempts, there would be no better juggling act in the business, but his work is marred by many misses. However, he made thoroughly good today and ranks among the hits. Booked in conjunction with Minnie Kaufmann, we certainly get great value from these two acts at their present price. Grace Van Studdiford. On at 3.26, 9 min, in 1. She is in fine voice and looks beautifully. Got a magnificent reception today, but the audience evidently expected more from her. At her present figure and amount of time I think once is enough for Boston. Victoria Parker turn. Thoroughly all right for the money, ninety dollars. Would make a satisfactory opening feature in almost all of the smaller cities. Cuts:- Winkler and Kress. Mock prayer. Motion of throwing chair into audience. Wills and Reynolds. "Button" verse in "Hunting" song. "Affinity cocktail" squib. "Bible" story. Remarks "Took off my shoes and the cow died", and "The cow thought she had twins". "Ping pong" story. Comment. This is one of the best shows of the season. It wouldn't take many changes to make it one of the best ever.
