PHILADELPHIA B.F.KEITH'S SEPTEMBER 5th 1 FABLES & "TOPICS" - 12 mins.) "Mice At War" very funny. "Topics average fairly good. HERBERT'S ANIMALS - (8 mins.) The usual act we have played several times and it furnished us with a very good opener. MILLER & CAPMAN - (6 mins.) Two boys in a straight dancing act. One of the two finishes with some very good eccentric stopping and this helped the act to quite a hit. Closed to a big hand. SEED & AUSTIN - (14 mins.) They were just as big a comedy hit as the old act of Smith & Austin and it is newer, the comedy of Seed getting big returns. The whole act is a big laughing hit. JED DOOLEY - (20 mins.) Did very well in this spot with his comedy talk and variety of stuff. Got plenty of laughs and closed to a good hand. ROBERT EMMETT KEANE & CLAIRE WHITNEY - (18 mins.) An unusual sketch. It is talky but the theme "The Gossipy Sex" is carried out with excellent comedy effect and, being very well played, the act was a good sized applause hit. YVETTE RUGEL - (21 mins.) Substituted at short notice for Belle Baker, who cancelled on account of illness, Miss Rugel was a big hit as she always is for us. She was in splendid voice and sang an excellent program. Finished very strong. WILLIAM & JOE MANDEL - (13 mins.) Owing to the non-arrival of their apparatus they were forced to work on practically a bare stage in street clothes, but despite this handicap they were a tremendous laughing hit and one of the applause hits of the show. VAUGHN COMFORT - (13 mins.) He was given a very warm welcome and was a big applause hit with his songs. His pianist also scored strongly with his work at the piano and the act registered a very big and well deserved hit. SONIA BARABAN & CHAS. C. GROHS - (13 mins.) A very pretty novelty dance act. Plenty of color, nicely staged and the dancing above the average. Made a very good closing act for this show and got a lot of applause. PATHE NEWS - A good variety of pictures. GENERAL REMARKS - The cancellation of Belle Baker caused a reconstruction of this bill with Yvette Rugel as a substitute and although we lost a very good name Rugel was a big hit and the surrounding show was finally whipped into playing shape so that it gave us a very good entertainment. CUTS Seed & Austin - "Dirty look" Fairy story and business with red necktie. Jed Dooley - Reference to necktie and the remark "Men tip their hats to him."
