24 Digby Bell, 2 shows, 20 min. in 1--Pronounced reception as he entered, proving that he easily draws his salary. Added to that he made good all the way through, and went much stronger than on the occasion of his previous engagement. Has all the finish of a trained "legitimate" performer, and shows it in every word and action. That is the sort of thing Boston vaudeville patrons appreciate. Felix and Barry, 2 shows, 24 min. full stage--In their burlesque absurdity, "The Doings of Johnny Jones", the particular feature of which is Felix' silence and fun specialty. There is something coarse about these people that grates upon the sensibilities of the refined audiences, and, while they get many laughs, the usually finish with a little applause. It is one of those turns that people enjoy momentarily, but it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. Will shift them further up the bill, and do not care much if we never get them again. Fields and Ward, 2 shows, 18 min. in 1--These men did surprisingly well taking into consideration the two hours talk preceding them. In holding down the difficult place in the bill, they were deserving of immense credit. All, their nonsense was laughed at unreservedly and they finished strong. Holloway trio, 2 shows, 15 min. full stage--Wire act. Too well known to need any extended notice. Is the best in the business and went stronger than ever before today. Biograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1--We had a return of "The Escaped Lunatic" picture today, together with two new ones, the entire program giving evident satisfaction. Christian and Turner, 3 shows, 12 min. full stage--Colored foot cyclists, one working straight and the other burlesque. It is a capital turn for this part of the bill, as it is impossible to have anything but a "sight" act follow the biograph, so many people leave the theatre in the afternoon. This is an act tried out here originally, and from a 3-a-day standpoint it is thoroughly all right. Comments:- If any criticism is to be made of the show it is that there is too much talking bunched together in the latter part of the program, but this is "up to me" and will be corrected tonight. No change will be made in the run of the show, as per criticism above, down as far as Dora Pelletier, after that it will run Felix and Barry, Digby Bell, Holloway trio, Fields and Ward, Charles Bradshaw and company, and the biograph, in the night show.
