92 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA. JUNE 27TH. BESHAM & MILLER-15 mins. in one-Man and woman, dancing and singing specialties. Well known on the circuit. good three-a-day act, and could make good in a better place if we could give it to them. THREE BARRETTS-18 Mins.-Landscape in 3-Three men, club juggling [and plate?] spinners. The comedy is awful. It might be a good three-a-day sight act. One of the men is clever with the clubs, but the other two are very ordinary jugglers and very poor comedians. Just serve to fill in time for the very early bill. HATHAWAY & WALTON-12 mins. in one-Man and woman, singing and dancing. Same sort of an act as Besnah & Miller, only better dressed, and dancing with wooden shoes. A good three-a-day act. Received strong applause at the close. DALY & DEVERE-15 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman, in an Irish comedy sketch. Well known on the circuit. May be a bit rough for this house, but does no harm in an unimportant place. Received some laughs, and went as well as the average three-a-day act. ROBERT HEATH-15 mins. in one-A relative of Heath, of McIntyre & Heath, blackface comedian. His songs are better than his monologue. The material isn't so bad, but the boy doesn't seem to have the knack of delivering it to the best advantage. Fair act for the three-a-day section, but the boy could stand a lot of coaching. DAISY DUMONT-11 mins. in one-Vocalist. A very neatly gowned woman, rather pretty, with features expressing character and intelligence. Presents a really high-class singing act, using excellent judgment in her selections. She acts her songs, and seems to be an excellent addition to the three-a-day section. FREDERICK VOELKER-15 mins.-Pal. in 3-Violinist, accompanied by his wife. A local celebrity, but nevertheless a distinguished violinist, famed throughout Germany as a master of the instrument. The instrument he used to-day is said to be a $5,000 Stradivarius. A good musical act for any house whose patrons appreciate high-class music. The man is certainly an artist, and will make the heavy billing we have given him here. HAL MERRITT-15 mins. in one-Monologuist and mimic, with a little poster drawing. Well known on the circuit. Always makes good here, if not on too late. His poster work seems to go best. Good act. LA VINE CIMARON TRIO-10 mins.-Gar. in 4-Two men and a woman, comedy acrobatic and dancing act, introducing a great deal of bass-drum music. typical burlesque show act. Lively enough--and plenty of noise; but received little applause, even at the windup. Did not go very well. MELVILLE & STETSON-15 mins. in one-Two women. Act is well known in vaudeville. they presented a better act to-day than I have ever before seen them present. Miss Stetson held herself down, with the result that the act received frequent applause and really made good in its place on the bill. MLLE. AMOROS-9 mins.-Gar. in 3-Trapeze performer, dainty and artistic. Good act. McINTYRE & HEATH-30 mins.-Wood in one-Landscape in 4-Presenting "The Georgia Minstrels." No comment necessary. Went as strong as they ever did. EMPIRE CITY QUARTETTE-18 mins. in one-Four men, three working straight, one as Jew comedian. Good selections and good voices. Received liberal applause. Good act.
