103 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF JULY 4, 1904. NR 3 ALEXIS & SCHALL.-- A man and a woman in a comedy acrobatic and dancing act, the man being about as good a contortionist as I have ever seen. The woman, while not so clever as he, is not at all bad, and together they present a very entertaining little bit. 13 minutes full stage. McGRATH BROS.--NH 3. Banjoists. This proved to be a very clever banjo act. In fact, I like it personally better than many of the higher priced ones that we have played, for these two men pick the strings, which is the proper way of playing a banjo, instead of strumming it after the manner of a mandolin. Their execution is exceptionally good and their selections were all pleasing. 11 minutes in one. KR 3 ROBBINS & TRENNEMAN.--A man and a woman in a neat little singing act. They have played the circuit several times and require no comment, as they always go very good indeed. 12 minutes, open in 2 and close in one; could do full act in one if necessary. NR 3 HARRY WATSON.-- Comedy singing and bicycle act. This fellow is really clever. He has a good idea of humor, sings a song well, and does some good bicycle stunts. He makes up as a tramp and opened with the old song entitled "O, what a Beautiful Dream," to which he has added a number of new verses which enable him to respond to half a dozen encores, finishing his act with his comedy bicycle work in which he does some very funny falls. 12 minutes, full stage. AR 3 BISSETT & SCOTT. Wooden shoe dancers and they are really clever. They dress neatly and make no attempt at comedy and went very well indeed this afternoon. 10 minutes in 2; could work entirely in one if necessary. GRR 3 DELMORE & ONEIDA.-- A man and a woman in a perch act. They also are well known on the circuit and their act went as strong this afternoon as ever. 11 minutes in one. GRR 2 MABEL BROWNELL & JULIUS McVICKERS.-- Presenting a little comedy sketch which went very well indeed. It is not especially strong, but is all right any where on the bill from 8 to 8.30. Both people are good performers and they held the interest of the audience and got lots of laughs. 19 minutes full stage. KR 3 THREE MITCHELLS. Colored man, woman, and a little girl in the usual singing and dancing specialty presented by "coons." Very strong. 18 minutes in one. YHR 2 THE FOUR PROTEANS. Four men in a comedy and singing act. Two of these men are members of the original Gotham comedy Quartette and have been in England for several years. They have come back with two English performers and are only over here about six weeks--their visit being mainly on account of one of the Americans wanting to see his people. They return shortly and were very anxious to get a week or two while here with a view to further work. They all make several changes during the progress of the sketch, and the English half of the team is decidedly the better, one of the men playing an elderly maiden lady and the other a funny, slightly exaggerated English dude. These two are responsible for the larger part of what comedy there is in the act, and they certainly did make people laugh this afternoon. I only have them booked for one week and prefer to look them over again before I give a positive recommendation of the act for they were unquestionably extremely nervous this afternoon. At that, the act was a laughing hit, but seemed to sag in spots a little, and judged from their first performance their singing is hardly up to the standard of our American quartettes. 26 minutes, full stage.
