109 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE,PHILA. JULY [28?]TH HENDRIX & PRESCOTT-12 mins. in one-boy and girl, singing and dancing specialties. Neatly dressed act. Well known on the circuit. Always go well here in a place on the early bill. Good three-a-day act. Jacobs & Van Tyle-15 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-1/2-Man and woman. Man works a grotesque [illegible] musician. Woman works straight. Singing and talking specialty. Their singing is better than their talk. No harm in the three-show section. Their singing received deserved applause. The comedy is poor. BRUCE & [DAIGNEAU?]-15 mins.-Open in one Spec. in 3-Close in one-Two girls, [illegible. .... in..... illegible.....] voice; good appearance; change to Indian costume, with special drop and sing an Indian song;another change to spangled costume for close in one. They have the foundation for a good act, but they lack the vocal ability. No harm in the three-show section. BELLECLAIRE BROS.-12 mins.-Gar. in 2-Two boys, hand balancers. The music--"Hearts and Flowers"--and the leopard girdles, a la Sandow, were all present. The boys presented an excellent little acrobatic act, and received liberal applause. A very good act for the three-show section. SMITH & GORMAN-18 mins. in one-Two men, cross-fire talking act. Style of Smith & Campbell. They managed to resurrect some poor, old invalid jokes, and strange to say the audience laughed at some of them. There are many better acts ahead of them on the bill. No harm for the three-show section. LEONARD & DRAKE-15 mins.-C.D.F. in [2-1/2?] -closed in one-Man and woman. Man is a mimic--works as comedian. Woman works straight. The comedy is not above par. The few imitations the man does are lost in the poor dialogue. Many better three-show acts in the business. They will be moved up the bill. Fair for the three-show section. CLAUDIUS & [CORBIN?]-12 mins. in one-Two men, banjoists. Good act. Good instrumental music acts always go very well here. YANKEN COMEDY FOUR-20 mins.-Plain in 3-close in one-Four men, comedians and singers. This is the act that introduces "Robert Fitzsimmons." A good comedy act, well known on the circuit. Their vocal offerings went especially well, with liberal applause. Good act. BEATRICE MORELAND-12 mins. in one-Monologue. Quite a clever artiste. The act introduces "Dan." our versatile "prop." man, who gives a creditable imitation of Alphonse. Miss Moreland seemed to thoroughly entertain every minute she held the stage. Good act. ALBURTUS & HARTHAN-18 mins.-Gar. in [?]-Assisted by sandwich man. Three men, jugglers--and very good ones. They use clubs and rubber balls and introduce some good comedy work. Very good sight act. GEO. THATCHER-[18?] mins. in one-Well knows blackface monologue. Seems to have some entirely new stuff. Always goes well here -- and to-day was no exception. Very good. ROBERT T. HAINES & CO.-22 mins.-Spec. Set-Sketch, "Their Honeymoon." It relates the troubles of a newly wedded couple trying to cook and keep house in a small Harlem flat. Two men and two women in the sketch. There is action in the sketch, and a vein of quite comedy running throughout, that the audience seemed to understand and appreciate. The theme is new, and some of the situations are cleverly conceived and admirably acted. A good act.
