126 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE. Phila., Aug. 29th. ZANO-Man, magician, with a pronounced German accent. Is quite clever in small things. Had a few little tricks that went very well. All right for three-show section. 11 mins. in one. CAMPBELL & CAULFIELD-Two men, Irish comedians, talking and singing--mostly the regular street cross-fire talk. these acts are not liked here, and the most they can do is to fill in time, on the early bill. They stand no show at all if in the two-show section. 12 mins. in one. WALLER & MAGILL-Man and woman, in a "kid" sketch, entitled "A Pistol Card," in which both are made up as juveniles. Not an exceptionally bright affair. After some objectionable talk is cut out the act will serve to fill in time in the very early bill, and that's all. 18 mins. C.D.F. in 3 SISTERS GOLDSMITH-Local singing act. Considering it was their first appearance on any stage--and their consequent nervousness--they did very well. They are very nice girls, and have very pretty costumes and good voices. 17 mins. in one. MELICH'S BIRDS-About twenty five cockatoos and parrots. A corking good act. The birds do acrobatic and horizontal bar work, ride bicycles, turn somersaults, and do a great deal of other work that is really incredible. An excellent act. Applause throughout. 11 mins. Gar. in 4. McMAHON & CHAPPELLE-Man and woman, in their well known comedy act. They call it "Twenty Minutes Before Train Time." A very good talking act--bright and clever throughout--and the audience laughed and applauded liberally. 14 mins. in one. CHAS. HAWTREY & CO.-Sketch "Time Is Money." Mr. Hawtrey is assisted by two ladies. The sketch is a good one. Hawtrey, as would be expected, is extremely clever in the comedy role, and the sketch went with laughter throughout. His support is not what it should be. The maid is good, but the lady playing with him chews her words fearfully, and weakens the act. However, Hawtrey is clever enough to compel the audience to overlook his opposite. 30 mins.-C.D.F. in 3. CLARICE VANCE-Vocalist. Looked better and went better than when here before. Got by with applause. 10 mins. in one. CARTER DE HAVEN SEXTETTE-Carter De Haven and five girls, singing and dancing act, entitled "An Easy Angel." The photos in the lobby are not those of the bunch of girls that appeared here to-day. Rather a good act--quite showy-but most of the stuff in the imitations was local to New York, and did not go as well here as the singing and dancing, which went very well, especially at the close. good act. 25 mins. Cut Garden in 4; back garden in 5. STUART BARNES-Songs and stories. Has a lot of new stuff. Went very well. good comedy, plenty of laughs, and liberal applause. Stronger than we thought. 20 mins. in one. McINTYRE & HEATH-Playing "On Guard" for the first time here. A scream of laughter throughout. 25 mins.-Landscape in 4. THREE DUMONDS-Too well known for comment. Always go very well here. Received advance applause, as did also Hawtrey, De Haven and McIntyre & Heath. This afternoon the audience would not let them go. Very good. 20 mins. in one. LUCIA & VIATA-Two girls. Clever and pretty little tight wire act. Neat appearance. Good performers. Good act. 8 mins. Gar. in 4. BIOGRAPH-"Fighting the Flames at Coney Island." Good selection. DRUMMER QUARTETTE-Four colored men, vocalists, made up as waiters. good act of the kind for the three-a-day section. 15 mins. C.D.F. 3.
