132 (2) MATTHEWS & ASHLEY: GHR, 2 shows, 20 mins. in one. Two men, Matthews does the straight work, while Ashley formerly of Ashley and Wooley, does the jew character. His Hebrew impersonations are very clever. They do a lot of burlesque acting with the imaginary third person. On their finish Matthews sings the song "The Man Behind", while his partner sings a parody to fit, which causes no end of amusement for the audience. Very good. SISTERS GAUSCH: GYH, 2 shows, 7 mins. Two young girls, acrobats and equilibrists. One of the best acts ever seen here. They appeared in short dresses a little above their ankles. They accomplish everything they attempt with ease, and perform some very difficult tricks. BIOGRAPH: HR, 3 shows, 20 mins. Good set of films, including the Auto. Mountain Climbing, which is very good. S.K. HODGDON. New York, Sep. 5th, 1904: Supplementary Criticism to the Biograph: Our Biograph reel contains a good selection of views, two entirely new, "The Auto. Mountain Climbing", showing a remarkable test of American and Foreign vehicle ascending and descending Mt. Washington, the picture photographically is a grand success; the other, "Chased by Dogs", the adventures of a couple on an English Highway. It looks rather fakey, as all foreign views are, but them seem to appreciate the humor and it receives numerous laughs. The balance, "A Cakewalk in London", shows how American diversion has influenced the British Capitol; two girls and two old women dancing to the popular craze, which carries a little laugh; "Three Little Maids", the girls getting into heaps of trouble by playing jokes on mischief bent, good comedy; and the last "In a Railroad Lunch Room", showing the interior of an English Lunch Room, one minute before train time, The comedy in this picture is rather dull, although the idea is novel, which will carry the picture. S.K.H.,
