226 PHILADELPHIA SHOW, NOV. 21ST '04 H. A. DANIELS. MARSHALL & LORRAINE-NH-3-Man and woman, alleged comedy sketch. Woman does some character work as a "tough" girl. Not good for anything but an opener. Very crude in spots. Cut out "Let us pray." This will be a dandy act to clear the house with on Thanksgiving--which is at best one redeeming feature. 13 mins. C.D.F. in 2-1/2. VAN FOSSEN & McCAULEY-GRR-3-Two men, blackface comedians. Singing and dancing, a few stories and some cross-fire talk. One works straight, other as comedian. Good three show act for the early section. They have improved. 12 mins. in one. HENDERSON & ROSS-GRR-3-Man and woman, in a "rube" comedy sketch, during which the man introduces some tight rope comedy work. A good three show act for the early section, some of the man's work being especially good. 12 mins. Farm drop in 4--Fence & S.C. ST. JOHN & LE FEVRE-NH-3-Man and woman--soubrette and tramp. Singing, dancing, and imitations by the woman. A very acceptable three show act. 16 mins. in one. BELLMAN & MOORE-YHR-2-This act does not work in one. I was emphatically told in New York that it did. Bellman says it's impossible. Their act has neither plot nor name. It is really a singing sketch--a little dialogue, but the greater part straight singing. Good act. Best they ever did in this house. 19 mins. C.D.F. in 3. MURPHY & FRANCIS-KR-3-Man and woman--real coon act. Lively, very, very lively, right from the start. Best coon team we have had here for a long time. Very good act. 17 mins. in one. POWELL'S MANIKINS-YRR-2- Not as good as Jewell's. The features of this act are a Papinta fire dance by a manikin and a trained dog being worked by a manikin master. The act is short, and five minutes of the thirteen are devoted to a spectacular real water fountain display, which did not seem to greatly appeal to the audience. A good act for the children holiday week, but cannot compare with Jewell's or Holdin's. 13 mins. Special Set. LEW HAWKINS-GHR-2-Blackface monologue and songs. His parodies went very well. Good act. 12 mins. in one. SNYDER & BUCKLEY-YRR-2-Two men, well known musical comedy act. Comedy is good. Always go very well in this house. Very good act. 26 mins. C.D.F. in 3-close in one. ST. ONGE BROS.-GYH-2-Comedy bike act, one working as tramp; other straight. Well known act on the circuit. Our patrons always seem to like it. Good act. 17 mins. Gar. in 4. Close in one. DELLA FOX-HRR-2-Her name was sufficient to give us the best matinee we have had in a month. Opened with a dainty Japanese song. Changed to a boy's costume for two songs. All went well. She does not close in one--we were told she did--hence a wait. 12 mins. C.D. Pal. 2 BARROWS, LANCASTER CO.-MRR-2-Sketch "When Georgina was 18." Three men and a woman. Scene, the office of a justice of the peace. The action rests on the doing of an eloping couple who come to the justice's office to be married. There is plenty of life and action in the sketch, but it's a bit talky. A good act, but hardly as finished as their old one. The comedy here is spontaneous, and not the quiet deep kind that Barrows can handle so well. They will go up on the bill.
