63 Charlie Case, 2 shows, 16 min. full stage--Like Jose, got a warm reception, but did not seem to go as well as on previous occasions and did not finish at all strong. This may be caused by the fact that Perin drew a class who are not regular vaudeville patrons, and did not understand him. He will probably be all right for the balance of the week. Eddie Girard and Jessie Gardner, 2 shows, 24 min. full stage--To all intents and purposes this act went as strong as on all previous occasions, although there is apparently no change in it, either in dialogue, songs or situations. It was one of the laughing hits of the show. Musical Dale, 2 shows, 18 min. in 1--It is just as useless to dilate upon the merits of this man's work as it would be to attempt to paint a lily. He is undoubtedly the greatest artist in his line in the varieties, and particularly strong here. He was compelled to respond with encores for every selection he gave. Galletti's Monkeys, 2 shows, 17 min. full stage--Interesting and decidedly humorous animal act, creating as big a hit as anything in the show. Biograph, 3 shows, 18 min. in 1--Better selections of pictures than last week, a panoramic railway scene in winter, scoring a hit, and "The Poachers" getting as many laughs as a comedy act. Reed and Shaw, 3 shows, 12 min. full stage--Presenting their usual acrobatic specialties, including the reprehensible comedy of the member of the team who thinks he was born to be funny. Comments:- The show is fairly well balanced, and with the exception of the Nobles act, is all right. Sketches can no longer be played in this house between 2 and 4.30 and 8 and 10.30 P.M., and we should not care if we never had one at all. In any event, the limit should be 20 minutes. Supplementary Report on Dr. Carl Louis Perin--I wish to add to the report of yesterday that this man has certainly made the biggest hit scored in this house for a long time, and the quality of the audience last night demonstrated the fact that he draws the best people, as our higher priced seats filled first, while the reverse has been the case for several weeks past. His work is unusually interesting, and I never saw an audience give such undivided attention to anybody, from the topmost seat in the Balcony to the Orchestra floor. Not only is his material of interest but it is highly humorous in spots, and one of the contributions to vaudeville that is such a novelty that it becomes talked about by everybody. While I have no doubt that he would draw even better next week than this, I will wait until the later part of the week before finally deciding. There is evidently intense interest in the subject of palmistry of which we have but little knowledge and people are only too glad to avail themselves of an opportunity of witnessing the man upon the stage who enjoys such worldwide celebrity as Dr. Perin. He will stand strong advertising and I think should be booked over the circuit without fail, as this is probably the hardest community he could have gone up against with such an act. M. J. Keating
