(M. J. Keating) Boston Show, Week of Nov. 16, 1903 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Usual collection of home and foreign views. Rooney Sisters, 3 shows, 10 min. full stage (can close in 1)--Pretty girls, neatly costumed, fair dancers but atrocious singers. Just got by in the opening place. Mortimer Bassett, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--Whistling soloist and vocal imitator. Satisfactory act for the 3-a-show section. Do not think he will ever rise above his present grade. Ozav and Delmo, 3 shows, 15 min. full stage--Fair juggling act by two men, one made up as a tramp and the other as a bartender, carrying a special drop. They exhibit considerable skill in the manipulation of various small articles, but it is not a first-class act. All right in its place in this bill. Wilson and Davis, 3 shows, 16 min. in 1--Comedy conversationalists and parody singers, first time here. They work in imitation of Fields and Ward, but fall short. Some of their material was a trifle objectionable, and I had to ask them to eliminate several words that are tabooed on this circuit, and likewise an impertinent reference to the President of the United States, which is never tolerated here. In other respects the act was all right, much of their talk being funny and the parodies decidedly clever. Bean and Hamilton, 3 shows, 10 min. full stage--One of the best "sight" acts of its class in the varieties. Much of their work is really remarkable, though the audience did not seem to be aware of the fact. Despite of this, the act went strong, and could be used in any part of the bill. Clifford and Burke, 2 shows, 16 min. in 1--Blackface comedians, singers and dancers, who make two or three changes of costume. They went decidedly well with an audience that had not begun to wake up, and I look for them to do even better during the balance of the week. Jules and Ella Garrison, 2 shows, 15 min. full stage--These people scored a big laughing hit with their burlesque of drama and tragedies. Quite a strong act for this house. R. J. Jose, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--Second week of this singer, who was given a hearty reception. I do not like his song selections, as the cheap ballads he renders for the song publishers appear to be totally unworthy of his talents. other parts of the show. If weather is all right, we will continue our big business.
