134 Bijou Criticism, Phila., Jan. 4th, 1904. Burto Lowande Bijou Circus: Full stage; 20 mins: 3 shows. Two men, one woman, 2 ponies, 2 dogs, with one ring circus setting. A pleasing act in almost any position on the bill; the work of the comedian in clown make up is very satisfactory and the ring work of the ponies and dogs are up to the standard usually expected. As the act has many times gone over the circuit it will be readily understood without further criticism. Goines & Hazard: Drop in one; 18 minutes; 3 shows. Two light skinned colored men, one working straight the other in burnt cork make up, with a good line of bright talk and some very fair singing frequently interrupted by applause and evidently satisfying to our audience, enabling them to finish strong. Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Keley: In "Uncle Phineas" They have already played over the circuit. Full stage setting divided into two furnished apartments. 20 mins; 2 shows. The sketch being a familiar one it is only necessary to say that the clever acting of the pair earned much applause and gained interest until its termination enabling them to finish well and satisfactorily. Shean & Warren: In their familiar sketch "Quo Vadis Upside Down" which has been played here and over the circuit several times and which has lost none of its humor provoking qualities as evidenced by the many laughs gained this afternoon and the frequent interruptions of applause and strong applause at the close. There is no doubt that it is as good as on any of its previous visits here. Musical Dale: Drop in one; 15 minutes; 2 shows. In his familiar musical presentation in each portion of which he earned good applause, and his finish on the chime bells carried him off as usual to very strong and hearty applause. Hoosier Zouaves: Full stage; 10 mins; 2 shows. with their own scaling wall. In rapid manual of arm drilling and bayonet exercises, all of which is executed in double time, concluding with rapid wall scaling. The manual of arm work is of unusual excellence, hardly a mistake being noticeable to-day, and their rapid marching and forming of many difficult figures earning frequent applause mainly attributable to their accuracy. Biograph: 20 minutes. The usual and interesting collection of views. Comment: As a whole our show seems to be one of the best balanced I have seen since our return to vaudeville and unusually satisfactory because of the collection of familiar names and familiar pieces therein, there being a sufficiency of comedy and a more than usual degree of cleverness exhibited in various portions of the show. The three a day section seems above what we generally anticipate as the standard in this house. The Hoosier Zouaves by their interesting drill work should prove a drawing card for us, and with reasonable weather business should not deteriorate to any extent. With the other prominent names on the bill the whole show should really prove a drawing card for this week. E.P. LYONS.
