147 Criticism, Keith's Bijou, Phila., Jan. 11th, 1904. STEREOPTICON; Varied collection of slides. 10 minutes. MACDONALD & HUNTINGTON: Open C. D. F. Close in one. 11 minutes. Singing good. and womans vocal abilities about up to the standard in 3 a-day. They fall off in dancing, however they are good and at the end received a fair share of applause. 3 shows. SEARS. Magician. Palace 2- Own set- 17 minutes. Very likely magician of very clever appearance but lacking manly voice satisfactory to most of his auditors. He will open show for remainder of week and can pass very satisfactorily at that time. His duplication of tricks performed by Ching Ling Foo and Ten Ichi's thumb tying trick enabled him to gain some applause. 3 shows. ORCHESTRA. Usual good selection HUME, ROSS & LEWIS: C. D. F. 23 minutes. Two men and a woman. Both men as comedians and the woman brightening up the many bright spots of their humorous sketch by good trombone and bugle work. The dancing of Dick Hume was very satisfactory and they held the interest to the close and finished very strong, gaining 3 recalls which they acknowledged with bows alone. One of the best acts of the day. 3 shows. CHALK SAUNDERS: Drop in one. 9 minutes. By his clever crayon work he gained many laughs and surely held the interest of his auditors, the closing of his act where he sidetracked the talk to music did not enable him to close as strongly as he perhaps desired but his act was thoroughly satisfactory. 3 shows ADOLPH ZINK: Open in one to Bio drop 20 minutes. Bio drop showing his dressing room actions in preparation for his imitations, only one of which drew any amount of applause, his closing one of Billy Clifford which enabled him to extract a number of laughs and a fair amount of applause, but when his salary is considered it strikes one as being unusually large. Apparently he does not earn it and it would seem that at one-half the amount he would be well repaid. 2 shows DEWITT, BURNS & TORRANCE/. Own set. Full stage, 12 minutes. A novel creation enabling the 2 men to do very satisfactory and creditable acrobatic work. The one lady of neat appearance is an addition to the act. They gained many laughs by their cleverness and gained considerable applause, Closing satisfactory and to good applause. 2 shows R. J. JOSE: Drop in one. 10 minutes. The first reception and the best reception of the day. His singing being received with the usual amount of applause. 2 shows MR. & MRS. ROBYNS//. Library set. In their sketch "The Counsel for the Defense". 32 minutes. Well received entirely throughout its rendition. The pathetic portions seeming to take at least the greater portion to our auditors. Throughout the telling of the sketch they received good attention from the entire house, and closed strong, and were recalled. 2 shows since returning to vaudeville. The best and strongest acts being those of Sloane & Wallace and Hume, Ross & Lewis and the show throughout from beginning to end was very satisfactory and very satisfactorily received. Judging by weeks lately past we should easily be able to hold our own in business from the viewpoint of receipts, despite the restrictions placed upon us by the investigating committee touring the City at the present time. E. P. Lyons.
