209 CRITICISM, KEITH'S BIJOU, FEBRUARY 29, 1904. STEREOPTICON. Usual collection of views. 10 minutes. CORNALLA & EDDY. Garden in 4, Own cottage in centre. 12 minutes. Two men in clown make-up, posing as comedy acrobats, in whose work little comedy and not much acrobatic skill is included. They failed to arouse our audience to-day except at the finish which was done in Hanlon's "Superba" style, which carried them off to fair applause. 3 shows. THE GREGSONS. Drapery in one. 13 minutes. Man and woman, neatly dressed and billed as singers and dancers. The woman is a very fair singer but the man is lacking in this qualification. Applause light throughout and at the finish. 3 shows. MR. & MRS. STUART DARROW. Sand and Shadow pictures. Palace in 4. 14 minutes. Working very neatly and cleverly, they early gained applause and earned a recall. Greeted with very good applause at the close. 3 shows. NORBERT HAMILTON. Drapery in one, 9 minutes. A local tenor soloist, being his first professional engagement. Somewhat nervous throughout, which detracted from his ability and the volume of his singing. Earned applause after each solo and closed to fairly good applause for a soloist in this position on the bill. 2 shows. ROSAIRE. Garden in 3 10 minutes. Slack wire artist, whose appearance includes the appearance of an attractive and well dressed girl. Very pretty sight act which was well received throughout. 3 shows. ORCHESTRA. Usual selection of good quality. 5 minutes. GILROY & WALZ. C. D. F. 24 minutes, 8 in one. Two men working straight, one of them attempting comedy, at which he does not noticeably succeed. The act however, is lively and just gets by in this position. Singing a comic song which was well received, earned two recalls and closed to only fair applause. 3 shows. LATINA. Palace in 4. 10 minutes, closing with 1 and 1/2 minutes in one. Very well built woman whose contortion work is passable, and well done for a woman of her size and weight. Gained satisfactory applause and her closing in one carried her off to really good applause. 3 shows. HODGE, HALL & CO. C. D. F. 22 minutes. The act that has recently played most of the circuit, "Bill Blithers, Bachelor". I am sorry to say that the good words said of them at the other houses, would not apply to-day, while Hodge himself was satisfactory, pleasing and the gainer of many laughs, all three of the women were in my opinion bad, enough to be called in vulgar vernacular, "shines". The act is hardly strong enough in this position but will have to keep them there as nothing preceding them would warrant changing places with them. Closed to only fair applause. 2 shows. NEWYORK NEWSBOYS QUARTETTE. Street in one. Four young fellows in rough street make-up, one as messenger boy, singing and acting a number of songs which were well received from the beginning. The applause growing with every song. While the boys are comparative amateurs and show it in most of their actions, they went very strong and the audience the comedy element but as the last half of the show was very well received, I look for no diminution of receipts for the balance of the week. While the receipts for the week will probably not come up to last week's [???] mark, I look for satisfactory results. E.. P.. LYONS. A rearrangement of the bill made the whole show go better to-night than it did this afternoon. E. P. LYONS, P.
