Cleveland Show, Oct. 9. (H. A. Daniels) CHAS. SERRA--Equilibristic and gymnastic feats. A very graceful performer, offering a novel sight act that proved a good opener. Good act. Special drop in 4. 7 minutes. OVERTURE--1 minute. Chamberlains--Man and woman in lasso throwing and rope manipulation. Quite a good little sight act and would have been more valuable if Will Rogers and his horse had not appeared at the Empire in burlesque last week. Act received some scattered applause. Good for its kind. Garden in 4. 10 minutes. OVERTURE--2 minutes. Norton & Nicholson--Man and woman in sketch, "The Lady's Tailor". This act does not close in one. The sketch, after 3 minutes, resolves into imitations of George Cohan, James Corbett and others. The act did not make a great impression. Received some applause in spots. It is too slow for an 8 act bill. Might be all right in a continuous house. C.D.F. in 3. 22 minutes. W. E. WHITTLE--Ventriloquist. While his act could be considered good, this spot is altogether too strong. It is the only close in 1 I have in the show and I had to use it to set Lafayette. Act went with few laughs and and a little applause. C.D.F. in 3, close in 1. 17 min. LAFAYETTE'S TRAVESTY BAND--First part introducing protean change. celestial conjuring and a travesty band. Special act. Full stage. Travesty band made quite a hit. 43 minutes. WM. CAHILL--Man from Ireland. After Lafayette's five curtain calls this man found rather a difficult spot awaiting him. The spot would have been too strong for him without Lafayette, but it is the only act in 1 that I have in the whole show. People walked out on him and you could hardly blame them. 19 minutes in 1. LAFAYETTE, THE LION'S BRIDE--This pantomimical spectacle is too well known to need description. Received liberal applause at the close. 11 minutes. KINETOGRAPH--French automobile picture. Very good.. COMMENT--The show runs by jerks and starts. With only one act in 1 and one act closing in 1 it is very hard to make a good show out of it. The Ellis-Nowlan Trio were stranded in Buffalo and will not reach here until tomorrow. From a vaudeville standpoint, last week's show was 100 per cent better than this one.
