New York Criticism--Nov. 6th, 1905. BELLE VEOLA:: Singing and Dancing Contortionist. She just about got by to-day though it is a pleasing little opening act. 9 min. in one- 3 shows MR. & MRS. CAL. STEWART: In their comedy: "Uncle Josh on the Bowery." Carry their own drop representing a Bowery street scene. Contains many bright lines. Several good scattered laughs. Big possibilities for material. Received some little applause on the finish. 18 min. in two- 3 shows LES DURAND TRIO: 3 men. Vocalists. Sing in Italian. Characters of Travellers and Musicians. Quite novel. Pleasing voices. 14 min. in one- 3 shows AUSTIN WALSH: With his "Sight-seeing Wagon." With the aid of Stereopticon Views, shows various sights of New York. By the use of the Megophone gives some bright material to the patrons of his rubber-neck wagon. He had the audience roaring during his entire act and is the biggest laughing hit of the show up to this time. 18 min. in two close in one- 3 shows A. W. A S R A : Juggler: First American Appearance. The first part of this man's work is very ordinary, but finally gets them on his billiard-table and ball work. Uses the billiard-table to shoot the balls and catches them in pockets adjusted to his coat. Also shoots revolvers attached to his head and plays musical instruments. Quite novel. Greatly appreciated. 13 min.- full stage- 2 shows JOHN EBERLY: Baritone: Pleasing appearance. Pretty fair voice. 10 min. in one- 2 shows MR. & MRS. HOWARD TRUESDELL & CO. 2 men and a woman. In their comedy: "Aunt Louisa's Advice." Excellent company. Little slow on the start-off, but finally managed to secure a number of laughs and held the attention of the audience unto the finish. 22 min.-full stage- 2 shows CLIFFORD & BURKE: Blackface Comedians: Laughed at throughout. Imitation of Bert Williams went very strong. 18 min. drop in one- 2 shows the best acts of this kind we ever had. The dogs all work quick and as all foreign acts, perfect, although they are not strong enough to close the show. 12 min. -full stage- 2 shows KINETOGRAPH: "An Impracticable Journey." Comedy. Good. "The Tsar of Russia- His Officers and Troops". Good, especially at this season. "Down on the Farm." A chasing picture. Good. N O T E .:-- The small end of the show is good, which is the best we had for a long time. Compelled to change the entire show around on account of the Chinatown Quintette and Long & Cotton. Believe the Lew Durand Trio will make good over the circuit. Staley & Birbeck was the applause hit of the show. The show is ordinary although pleasing. Probably run better after re-arrangement.
