176 REVISED CRITICISM. Cleveland Show, Week of Feb. 5th, '06. (H. A. Daniels) [SALIE?]--Singing sketch This act went a little better at the night show, after their work had been cut down and their selections changed. for the money they are receiving the act can be considered of good value for the continuous houses in the East, and could probably get by at 8 o'clock. However, in a two show a day house like this, they are not strong enough to hold down third place on the bill, and go on at 9 o'clock. While they greatly weakened my show for this week in this spot, I am convinced that they can be given a spot in a continuous show, where they will be good value for the money. Cleveland Show week of Feb. 5th. (H. A. Daniels.) MR. & MRS. FRED LUCIER--Man and woman, They present a little country sketch entitled "A Rustic Romeo." Best thing in the act is the mans trick violin playing. Received a little applause. Their close in one took them off to a small hand. MULLEN & CORELLI--Two men. One working straight the other grotesque. This is an ujusual act of the kind. It is "different", And is far from the beaten path. The audience today received all very favorable, with liberal applause and laughter. C.D.F. inthree. 12 min. JOE FLYNN--Singing and talking comedian. The greater part of this mans stuff is not suited to our audiences. He is not strong enough to hold down third place in an eight act show. Some of his stuff was laughed at but not by the people down stairs. Drop in one. 16 min. LEONE & DALE--Man and woman. Operatic sketch entitled "A Lesson in Opera." There are a hundred women in Cleveland who can sing all around this girl. Her opening song was so bad that I had a burning desire to run down cellar and hide. The act is not strong enough for this place. The man tries to carry it, but he has not sufficient help to do it alone, and this after-noon he failed miserably. Half the people in the house seemed to give a sigh of relief, when it was all over. Little courtesy applause. C. D. F. in three. 20 min. DAN QUINLAN & KELLER MACK--Talking sketch "The Traveling Dentist," A real act. The second chance the audience had today to laugh-------and the audience laughed, heartily and almost continuously through-out the act. They seemed to enjoy every work of the dialogue. Special drop in one. 15 min. JOSE H HART & CARRIE DE MAR--Comedy sketch entitled "The Other Fellow". A rather talky affair. There are some bright spots scattered through the act, and the audience today tried hard to laugh at every opportunity. I have seen many better sketches. I thought these people were well known in Cleveland, but I find that they are not, and that few of the natives here ever heard of them. They played the Opera House two years ago in a "Foxy Grandpa," but they tell me that it was a frost. Both Hart and Miss De Mar are very clever, and there is no reason why they cannot do as well or better in vaudeville, than Fred Hallen and Mollie Fuller. If Hart & De Mar were known in this town, I could make money with the act. C. D. F. in three. 29 min. THE MYSTERIOUS ZANCIGS--Mind reading. If there is any act in the show this week that will draw money, this is the act. The Zancigs have played here before, but their work is so unusual that they can hold the closest attention through the act at every performance, and every one that visits the theatre will talk about them on the outside. Drop in one. 17 min. PICCHIANI TROUPE--Five women and three men. A corking good acrobatic act. Full of life, action, and ginger. An excellent act from every standpoint. Palace in five. 8 min. KINETOGRAPH--Every body works but Father. Good. The Fire Cascade. Good. The Barnstormers. Good. Comment/--The show this week cannot be compared with those of the past two weekd, and business is going to drop with an awful thud. There are three acts that should never have been booked in an eight act show. Joe Flynn has no business in this house. Leone and Dale are just about good enough to open, but can never hold down their present place. The Luciers are not bad, but they are not strong enough to do better than open with, and it is useless to try to open a show at 2:15 with anything but a dumb act.
