218 New York Criticism--March 19th, 1906. J. WARREN KEANE: Magician. this young man elaborated a little on his act. Giving an excellent exhibition of ball and card palming and introduces a few other little tricks. He is one of the cleverest in this line we ever had. Seemed to puzzle the Jury completely, and held the attention of the audience throughout,-something out of the ordinary for man of this calibre. Received quite a big lot of applause on his finish. 21 min.-full stage (Closed in one about 5 min.) 3 shows THE SAWADAS: Japanese Hand and Foot Jugglers. Made quite an impression as they entered with two little tots by their side. Their work is only the ordinary hand and foot juggling, although valuable for the three-show section. 14 min.-full stage- 3 shows MURPHY & ANDREWS: Talking comedy. Act remains about the same. Have a wee bit of new material. Received some laughs and held them throughout, but did not go as strong as on their previous engagement. 15 min. in one-3 BRAZIL & BRAZIL: Acrobatic comedy: Rather talky and tame on the start-off, but when they got down to the acrobatic work and balancing, received some applause. 11 min.-full stage- 3 shows "SENATOR" FRANK BELL. First time in five years for this old stand-by. In his political speech to-day made quite a sensation. They seemed to devour everything he said and made the hit of the bill up to this time. The audience were slowly going to sleep, when he made his appearance, but he finally brought them back to life. 12 min. in one- 3 shows A. W. ASRA: Received some little advance applause. As usual on Monday, he was quite nervous and missed a great many of his tricks, although he partly redeemed himself and managed to secure some applause. Act is throughly alright for a repeat. Don't care to play again, as the novelty is worn off. 11 min.-full stage- 2 shows DILLON BROS: The regular member of this team, I understand, is quite ill. The other fellow who is taking his place is a "fill in" with apparently no voice. I don't think I ever saw this act with such a poor selection of parodies. The first two parodies were sung without any applause. Finally got them with him on the last song. Looks to me as though they are going backwards. 16 min. in one- 2 shows EMMET DEVOY & CO: In "The Saintly Mr. Billings." Second presentation here. The comedy in this act, although coarse, went with laughter throughout, and were compelled to respond to several curtain calls. 27 min.-full st. "Bird's Eye View of Paris." First repeat we have had of the Kinetograph although interesting and alright. "Juvenile Trainer." Good. "Please help the Blind." Quite a novel comedy film.
