(F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of April 9, 1906 Overture, 2 shows, 10 min.--Selections from "The Wizard of the Nile". The Tamakas, 3 shows, 13 min. in 3--Man and woman, Japanese top spinners, jugglers and magicians. A little bit apart from what we generally get in the 3-a-day section and was accordingly appreciated. Good act for the 3-a-day section. Lily Seville, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--English character comedienne making several changes of costume. Quite a clever girl, somewhat different from the usual act of this kind. Not thoroughly understood by our patrons, but got considerable applause at the finish. Good act for the 3-a-day section. Ben Beyer, 3 shows, 11 min. full stage--Comedy and trick bicyclist. This chap is a very clever trick bicyclist and is a good addition to the 3-a-day section in that sort of work. His comedy is hard to be found, but his trick work was repeatedly applauded and closed to a good hand. McMahon & Chapelle, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--In "Twenty Minutes Before Train Time". Well-known on the circuit. Provoked considerable laughter with the dull audience this afternoon, and held down this spot on the bill quite acceptably. Asra, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--Novelty billiard ball manipulator. Well-known on the circuit. Went fully as well as on his previous visit to this house. Good act for the 2-show division. Frank Byron and Louise Langdon, 2 shows, 22 min. open in 3, close in 1--In the comedy sketch, "The Dude Detective". Has been described from Providence. Byron's songs got the audience in fine shape this afternoon and went with laughter and applause throughout, closing to an excellent hand. Good act for the 2-show division. Sisters Herzog-Camaras, 2 shows, 11 min. full stage--Head and hand balancers. Been described in the other house. The best female head and hand balancing act we have played in this house to my recollection. Strong applause throughout and likewise at the finish. Melani Trio, 2 shows, 13 min. in 1--Italian street singers and musicians. Well-known on the circuit. Excellent act of this sort that went big with our audience today. Harry Gilfoil, 2 shows, 24 min. open in 3, close in 1--In his character creation "Baron Sands". Has changed his act a little since he was last here and was strongly applauded in this spot today. To my mind, he is one of the most artistic entertainers we have in the varieties. 2. The Dear Boys Home for the Holidays. Fair comedy film 3. The Silver Wedding. Fair film. Arnot and Gunn, 3 shows, 18 min. in 3--Man and woman in the Irish comedy sketch, "Regan's Luck". The sketch tells the story of an Irishman who received a letter purporting to come from Ireland and stating he has been left the property of his uncle. He starts to celebrate when he receives another letter informing him that the first was a joke. It is quite a clever little sketch for the 3-a-day section and got considerable laughs in this very poor spot on the bill. Ferguson and Watson, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1--Vocal and conversational comedians. Not much for this house. In fact, they are just where they should be. Cut "Fool". Comment:- The show will turn out to be a very good one to night, the principal fault with it this afternoon being the scarcity of comedy. We have gotten over that defect by putting "The Rarebit Fiend's Dream" into the middle of the show. Considering this is Holy Week, which probably affects Boston more than any city in the country, we had a very good audience this afternoon.
