Valerie Bergere and Company, 2 shows, 31 min. full stage -- Presenting for the second time here "His Japanese Wife", which is a dainty playlet, but six or eight minutes too long. It was well acted by the star and her supporting company, and the stage setting was beautiful, too, but so far as Boston is concerned, we could do without those things that are too long rather than queer our shows. Kelly and Violette, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1 -- Capital singers, particularly the man, and well known on the circuit. Considering the difficult place on the bill, went very strong, all their selections being encored. Eddie Foy and Company, 2 shows, 20 min. open in 4, close in 1 -- Mr. Foy got a big reception when he appeared and there were occasional laughs at the absurdities of the alleged sketch, but when it came to the singing of his topical songs, the audience got up in bunches, and as they went out were very free in expressing their opinions to the ticket agents and others of how "rotten" they thought Mr. Foy was. These "freak" headline attractions are of little use to us in Boston, particularly when they don't "make good." Mr. Foy will probably draw some little business in excess of our regular patronage, but he will likewise prove a great disappointment to all who see him. This is written regardless of my personal opinion, as I have always thought him a very funny man. Al Treloar and Edna Tempest, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage In a muscular and strength exhibition. The cabinet work by the man discounts Sandow, as he is a much finger developed athlete. The woman, too, is something more than a "dummy", and the act as a whole is as good as anything we play. Biograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1 -- We had only two pictures this week, viz: 1. Midwinter bathing at the L-St. bath house at South Boston. This film has naturally considerable local interest, but it is a picture that would make a hit everywhere, since it is so unusual. Would be a great view to put on in July or August. 2. The Nihilists. This is a somewhat interesting "fake" picture and would be stronger in a house like the Howard than this. I have cut out of it that portion which shows the whipping of a prisoner until he faints with pain as it would prove most offensive to the lady and children patrons of this house. The Valdings, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage -- In a clever exhibition of double trapeze work. Quite a nice "sight" act from any point of view.
