178 Boston Show, Week of May 15, 1905. (F. J. O'Connor) Stereopticon, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Usual selection of home and foreign views. Marlowe, Plunkett and Tutein, 3 shows, 19 min. in 3--I found that we were a little short on time so booked this act. They do a sort of Shakesperian burlesque which went very well and makes an excellent opening act for this house. Musical Bells, 3 shows, 14 min. open in 2, close in 1--First time here. Two men, playing bells, accordions and other musical instruments. Secured a good hand for this spot in the bill. Excellent act for the 3-show section. Toby Zara and Violet Stetson, 3 shows, 16 min. in 2--Man and woman neatly costumed. In a baton manipulating act. They work quickly and it went very well in this spot in the bill. Good value for the 3-show section. The Majestic Trio, 3 shows, 12 min. in 1--Two men and a woman, "real coon" comedians, singers and dancers. Their vocalism and dancing is only fair but at that they scored considerable applause. Good enough for the 3-show section. O Hana San, 2 shows, 9 min. full stage--Beautiful series of Japanese living pictures, although the arrangement is rather poor, it was watched with closest attention this afternoon, and scored well-merited applause. Some of the pictures are exceedingly beautiful. Could easily go further down the bill and "make good". William O'Rourke and Alice Burnette, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--Man and woman in buck dancing in wooden shoes. Fair dancers, but if it is possible we will move them further up the bill. Applause was very scanty at the finish. The Obersteirer Troupe, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--Double sextet of Tyrolean singers, musicians and dancers. (Late one of the big attractions of the St. Louis Fair). They are only fair vocalists but they were nevertheless the applause hit of the show up to this point. Excellent act for this house. Arthur Whitelaw, 2 shows, 18 min. in 1--Irish character comedians made up as prosperous gentleman. Had some new material, but most of it he used on his first appearance here, last August. His recitation, one of George Cohan's pieces, was the hit of his act. He just about made good in this place in the bill; if anything, it is a little late for him. Chris Bruno and Mabel Russell, 2 shows, 17 min. in 2--In the skit, "Tricks of the Trade" introducing singing and dancing special ties. This is a bright couple with plenty of vim and Bruno's eccentric dancing is all right. They were the applause hit of the show up to this point. Received three calls at the finish. Obersteirer Troupe, in their order. The audience was large and enthusiastic but I think a good deal of them came in on account of the weather, although we seemed to have a large attendance of young ladies to see Miss D'Arville. There is too much comedy in the bill, and the balance is lost. Should have a big sight act in such a bill.
