192 PHILADELPHIA SHOW, JUNE 12TH'05. H. A. DANIELS. CONWAY & HELD-GRR-3-Two men, singing and talking act, entitled "Casey's Visit." The vocalist can't sing, and the comedian has a queer idea of comedy. It's a "refined" act, because they wear opera crush hats and tuxedo coats. The laughing song the comedian sings is the only good thing in the act. Cut out: "Wouldn't give a damn for $2,000,000." "Hell Gate" and "Cold feet" stories. 15 mins. in one. THK ZARNES-KR-3=Man and woman, trapeze and swinging rings. A good Three-show sight act. Well known on the circuit. Very good for an opener. 12 mins. Gar. in 4. [GAL ANDO?]-NH-3-Clay modeler. An excellent three-show sight act for this house. All his work was applauded--and it deserved the applause. 12 mins. Gar. in 4. BAILEY & FLETCHER-KR-3-Two men, lively colored singing and dancing act. Went very well with the large Monday audience this afternoon. Liberal applause throughout the act. 15 mins. in one. MILDRED FLORA-NH-3-Opened in one with a sort of a "Sal Skinner Girl" specialty, which was below par. Then went to full stage and attempted Geo. Austin's comedy wire act. She has appropriated every little detail of Austin's work, but she can't get away with it in Austin's style. No real harm for an early spot in the three-show division. Cut out: bustle in disrobing act. 15 mins. Open in one. Garden in 4. WARD BAKER-HR-3-Violinist. I was told he worked as a "rube" and that there was some comedy in the act. The fact is, he works straight, dresses straight and plays three classical selections. There is not comedy in the act and this is too late a spot for straight violin playing in one. From a musical standpoint he may be a very clever performer, but straight violinists in one do not make an awful hit here at 2.40. 11 mins. in one. NORTON & NICHOLSON-YRR-2-Man and woman, sketch "The Ladies' Tailor." The opening is good, the style of work a little out of the ordinary, and it immensely pleases the women. Sketch winds up with man mimicing "Jim." Corbett and George Cohan. Interest lags greatly during the latter part of the sketch. Not strong enough for later than 8 o'clock on a good bill. 19 mins. C.D.F. in 3. QUINLAN & MACK-GNH-2-Two men, one blackface, other straight. Talking act of the rapid-fire variety. Clever stuff, well delivered, and the audience laughed continuously. Very good act. 15 mins. in one. JUGGLING McBANS-GNH-2-Two boys, club jugglers, and about the cleverest we have ever played. They work accurately and very rapidly Received thunderous applause. Very good act. 8 mins. Gar. in 3. AURIE DAGWELL-GRR-2-"The Girl of '61." Vocalist, singing three of the old time songs in costume. Her "Dixie" song was somewhat of a hit. Good act. 11 mins. in one. KENO, WALSH & MELROSE-YYH-2-Comedy acrobatic act, two men working straight, other as comedian. Very lively act and proved an excellent closing number for a good strong bill. 11 mins. Landsc. in 4. BIOGRAPH-THE CHRYSTAL CASKET, Good magic; THE BIGAMIST, Good chasing picture; HOW MIKE GOT SOAP IN HIS EYES, Fair comedy; A SEASHORE BABY, Pleasing; AUGUST, the MONK, Funny.
