229 TEMPLE THEATER, DETROIT, MICH. Aug. 14, 1905. 229 RICK'S PONY, DOG AND MONKEY CIRCUS - This act was rather disappointing as more was expected of it. There are eight ponies, the same number of dogs and one monkey. The drill of the ponies is the feature. The act of Howard is fully its equal. 18 min. F. S. EMMA FRANCIS AND HER ARABIAN WHIRLWINDS -- This is a sort of acrobatic dancing act. Miss Francis is almost too well known for further comment. Her two Arab boys are good tumblers, but the act is not worth the money paid it. 10 min. F. S. BEN JOHNSON-- It is a mystery to me how this stock actor broke into vaudeville. He is a fair impersonator of stage celebrities, but he lacks the essential magnetism, and he was received here apathetically. 15 min. in one. THE THREE KEATONS -- While I cannot see this act even with binoculars the people who pay their money appear to enjoy every minutes of it. Of course Buster is the act and without him it would not be worth 15 cents. At the opening performance they held the stage 30 minutes but the manager made them cut 10 minutes off it at the night performance. GODFREY & HENDERSON-- Man and woman presenting a sketch entitled "A Daughter of the Gods." Neither Mr. Godfrey or Miss Henderson can act. The sketch is one of those dream affairs so often met with in vaudeville. There are some bright lines and some long passages. There are a great many better sketches and better players in vaudeville, and a few who are worse. 23 min. F. S. AURIE BAGWELL -- This tall, rather handsome wowman appeared to good advantage in a selection of songs that took very well with the audience. 10 min. in one. JOHN GEIGER -- His imitations on the violin were great and he received a big hand at the close. 12 min. in one. RICE AND ELMER -- Comedy horizontal bar act. A rattling good [illegible] act. 12 min F. S. COMMENT. This is a rather dull show, with little singing or brightness. Not a single act stands out prominently to be talked about.
