[page number] 231 [handwritten in pencil:] 231 NEW YORK CRITICISM AUGUST 21st, 1905. CARL HERBERT Magician. Card and ball manipulating fairly good, balance of his work very ordinary. Good opening act. Fifteen minutes in two, can work in one. MEANEY & ANDERSON Man and woman, in a yankee comedy, talking, singing and dancing act. Material very dull, singing and dancing only fair, which just about let s them out. Fifteen minutes, full stage, three shows. MURPHY & ANDREWS Man and woman, in a talking and singing comedy. First time for this act in years, seem like new faces. Have a lot of good material, which secured a number of laughs, and pleased immensely. Alright for an early place. Seventeen minutes in one, three shows. THALL BROTHERS Novel Electric musical comedy. One works straight and the other black face. The scene represents a garden in Florida, with colored incandescent lamps for light effects. The comedian is bad and the other can't talk. The musical end of it is only fair. Will have them cut the comedy and work straight. Eighteen minutes, full stage, three shows. BARRETT BROTHERS Irish song and dance. The material in this act just about lets them out. The singing is fair and the dancing amateurish. They just about pass. Fifteen minutes in one, three shows. MAY DURYEA & W. H. MORTIMER Presenting the playlet "The Imposter" Both Duryea and Mortimer are excellent. The business and situations of the comedy carry it and they score a big lot laughs. Received two curtain calls on the finish. Twenty-one full stage, two shows. MARK SULLIVAN Monloguist [sic] and mimic. This man's voice is failing and he looks to me as though he was going backwards. His material is new and received some scattered laughs, but closed very weak. Fifteen minutes, in one, two shows. GALLETTI'S MONKEYS Well trained, good comedy. Monster applause on the finish. Fourteen minutes full stage, two shows. MIGONETTE [sic] KOKIN This young lady is giving us an entirely new act, consisting of vocal imitations and dancing. Greatly improved since last here. Applause hit of the show. Fourteen minutes in one, two shows. DIXON & ANGER Two men, talking comedy. They have a lot of very good material, which went immensely and held this
