[page number] 232 [handwritten in pencil:] 232 (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Aug. 21, 1905. Fadettes, 2 shows, 60 min. full stage -- Last week for the orchestra, and they played an "all request" program, the most popular selection being a violin solo, "Largo" by Mrs. Wilczek, which went to tremendous applause. An excellent selection for the other houses to insist upon. John D. Gilbert, 2 shows, 17 min. in 1 -- "Comedian-at-large", in songs and sayings. A most difficult spot for a single entertainer of his order and he just about managed to hold it this afternoon, although he secured scattering laughs all through. Cut "losing flesh rapidly." Gallagher and Barrett, 2 shows, 18 min. open in 3, close in 1 -- In a comedy talking and singing specialty. They have a really funny line of material, but their talk is not broken up enough. Just about got by this afternoon but went all right in the evening. Juggling MacBanns, 2 shows, 8 min. open full stage, close in 1 -- Well-known juggling team who have been all over the circuit. All their work was heartily applauded and they would be good for a return to this house when possible. Lyric Trio, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1 -- Two men and a woman, in operatic and popular selections. Put these people in here for time to set Hilliard and they held down the position quite creditably, although they can only be considered fair vocalists. All right for this sort of an act for the 3-a-day division. Robert Hilliard and Company, 2 shows, 25 min. full stage -- in his latest and best play, "As a Man Sows". The usual enough theme of the villain, the husband and wife, but remarkably well worked up. Little June Pelton occupies a more prominent position than in any of the other plays Hilliard has presented and captivates the audience with her clever acting. A tremendous hit, forced to respond to five enthusiastic curtain calls. If it were possible, I would hold him for another week. Rice and Cady, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1 -- German comedians and dancers. These people must have improved wonderfully since last here, as they held down this stiff position in a most creditable manner. Applause and laughter throughout, and can be ranked with Carlin and Otto for this house. Four Rianos, 2 shows, 15 min. full stage -- In their comedy acrobatic act, "In Africa." Well-known over the circuit. Would make a good act for the children. Went very well here and got a good hand at the finish. Kinetograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1 -- 1. Stolen by Gypsies. A good film, both comedy and melodramatic. 2. The Language of the Flowers. Quite a pretty colored film. 3. Weary Willie Kisses the Bride. Fair comedy film.
