MAY 14, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. WHITE CITY QUARTETTE, Vocalists:- 11 min. in 1. 2 shows. These people were billed for three, but the contract showed two. It is not better than a three-show act at that. They sing in good unison and the songs are well selected. However, they got a pretty fair hand for each of their songs, and closed fairly strong. THOS. MEEGAN & CO., "On the Q.T."-22 min. F.S. 3 shows. Two work straight, and comedy colored servant. The action of the sketch relies upon a bridegroom's first offence in drunkenness, and the usual complications. The woman is quite pretty and charmingly gowned. The first part of the sketch went rather slow, and the laughs were very few. However, it gathered strength and interest, and closed fairly well. Passes acceptably in this section of three-a-days. FRANKIE ST. JOHN & JOHNNIE LE FEVRE; "A Little of Everything":- 12 min in 1 2.shows. Rather pleasing woman of the soubrette type and a young man. Good selection of songs. Three changes of costume. They dance very well. Very fair act for this place on the bill. Received one encore and closed quite strong. LA VINE & LEONARD, Juggling Automobilists:- 13 min. F.S. 3 shows. Fourth time here in two years. German and tramp eccentric comedy juggling. Have a few tricks which received some applause, but the motor car scene took the crowd much better. Held the interest of the audience to the end, with a good many laughs in between. The close was very strong. Think that they did better this time than at their recent appearance last Fall. KENNEY & HOLLIS, Comedians:- 15 min. in 1. 3 shows. One eccentric and one straight. Started rather tame, but got the crowd going pretty soon. Their songs and imitations and general talk won a good many laughs. They received a good hand throughout, and an encore at the finish with strong applause. good three-a-day act. LES AUBERTS:-Modern Parisian Dancers:- 10 min. F.S. 2 shows. Few variations from their last appearance here. The woman is very tastefully gowned, and the act is a good deal of the Cafe Chantant order. Though lacking somewhat in swiftness, is artistic and pretty. Each one of the dances got fairly good hand. The act pleased better than it did when here before. Less posing and more work. The acrobatic work was especially good at the close and merited a good hand. WERDEN & CLABBISH, Ballads, with semi-oil paintings:- 15 min. in 1. This is one of the best acts in 1 we have had in a long time. The sterioptican pictures to illustrate the songs are very interesting and some are beautiful. The songs are well selected, sung well by an excellent tenor. There was considerable applause for both pictures and songs, and the close was strong. It is a first rate act for this place on the bill. [Text is missing because of the leaf lying over it; text continues:] act and feature, well costumed, and thoroughly O.K. The finish was quite an ovation. The only one of the lot who is not an Arab got a little more applause than he deserved, probably because he showed such daring to mix it with these clever people at their own game. Will prove O.K. [Text is missing because of the leaf lying over it; text continues:] that, but he realized that in the afternoon he did not catch the audience as he should have done, and made up his mind in the evening to "go after them" as he said. The result was that he was in the best of form and put lots of ginger into the act, getting all the worth out of it. We have billed him pretty strong, and predict him a safe hit for the balance of the week.
