46 june 25, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS. BARTO and LAFFERTY, The Dancing Couple:- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. Man and woman in a very dainty little act. Singing is more than passable, and the dancing is good. The little girl is pretty and dresses with good taste. Received some advance applause from gallery. Started the show off with much spirit. Dancing received an encore. Closed to very good applause. THE CAGNOUX, Juggling and Equilibrium:- 13 min. F. S. 3 shows. Man and woman. Woman quite pretty and becomingly dressed. They carry considerable mechanical paraphenalia which is attractive and helps the act. They had a lot of tricks not usually seen, and held the interest of the audience. Tricks more showy than expert. The woman does not merely dress the act, but is quite as expert as the man. Closed well. A satisfactory three-a-day act. MLLE. EDNA, The Whistling Girl:- 9 min. in 1. 3 shows. Makes a fair presentation in a becoming costume. The whistling is very shrill, some notes are sweet and sure. Each one of the three selections got a fair hand. I do not think that a whistling feature takes very well with our audiences. However, she held down this place acceptably. CARR and JORDAN, "A Dip into Vaudeville":- 20 min. close in 1. 2 shows. Open and close in 1. Opens with a church exterior scene with a song to organ accompaniment. Continues F.S. with some Shakespearean travesty. Close in one with a song, a burlesque of Il Trovatore. This act did not create the impression that we expected. There was only fair applause and some scattered laughs. The finish was satisfactory. Just about gets by, and left no impression. SAWN and BAMBARD, Acrobatic and Knockabout Comedians. 17 min. F. S. 2 shows. Two men both working eccentric. There is a good deal of acrobatic work of the knockabout kind in this act and also some contortion features that took well. The chief attraction, however, was the comedy which was on the nonsensical order and received plenty of applause. O. K. for this place on the bill. GEIGER and WALTERS, "In the Streets of Italy":- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Received some advance applause. Man and woman both working eccentric, Italian street costume. Work with an organ which is not too strong to drown the voice and particularly the violin, especially good. In fact, in many respects Geiger is a genius of the violin. His imitations of various musical instruments, the human voice, queer noises, etc, got a good hand. Every number went well, and there was an encore at the close. This act is novel and thoroughly O.K. for this or a better place on the bill. Will go down later. PALFREY and HOEFLER, Comedy Acrobatic Cyclists:- 9 min. F. S. 2 shows. Two men, one working straight and other eccentric. Perform only regular trick cycle feats with some new ones. The comedy part is the whole thing. The finish was only fairly good. This act is over paid. It is only worth $125.00 at the limit. At present figure it is nothing short of robbery as that EIGHT ALLISONS, Acrobats same brilliant and artistic feature that made such a hit here last Fall. It is all that could be desired from high-class European act of the sort, and received constant applause. The small boy athlete made quite a hit with his little touches of comedy, and applies some of the very best acrobatic work ever seen on this stage.
