2. COAKELY & MC BRIDE, Blackface Comedians:- 18 min. in 1. 2 shows. This is essentially a gallery act. The songs are good. The dancing on the sanded mat is immense. The talk is coarse, even indecent at times. It will have to be cut considerably to suit our audiences. There were many laughs throughout this feature, and the close was strong. They received two curtain calls, but almost all the applause came from the gallery and balcony. See cuts appended. E. R. PHILIPS & COMPANY, "Her Busy Day":-22 min. F.S. 2 shows. Three people comprise the cast in this sketch. It has for a motive a marriage proposal of a very busy young man to a young woman Doctor, with many attendant difficulties. It is a very good early sketch, indeed, and held the attention of the audience in spite of the fact that Miss Katie Farr did not get half there was in her part of "Dr. Wilson". In fact, she has neither beauty nor personality, and the whole show rested upon the shoulders of Philips, as "Jack". There were amusing situations throughout and the laughs were many. Closed well. Miss Farr promises to put more ginger into the part to-night. KINETOGRAPH: WEDDING OF KING ALPHONSO XIII etc. Repeated,-- reported on last week. Held over and went as strong as ever. WILLIAM SELBINI and JEANETTA GROVINI, Juggling, tumbling etc:- 10 min. F.S. 2 shows. This is a very swift-moving and expert act. The woman does contortion and expert cycle-riding, the man juggling and tumbling, including one big stunt of riding a high wheel and juggling billiard balls, at the same time supporting a half dozen spinning plates. Each one of the feats got a fairly good hand. The rapidity of the work held the attention satisfactorily. The close was fine, with a curtain call. JOHN D. GILBERT. Songs, Sayings and Doings:- 18 min. in 1. 2 shows. This man's mannerisms did not take at all with the audience. He seems to lack the personality to be in the big class of monologue artists. He may do better with the evening audiences, but he certainly did not make the expected sensation this afternoon. The close was rather weak for a feature in this spot of the bill, and the one curtain call which he took was rather forced. He realizes himself that he failed to make his accustomed hit here, and will change his act somewhat, giving it a better arrangement and including more songs. WILLIAMS & WALKER GLEE CLUB:-28 min. F. S. close in 1. 2 shows. Big advance hand. The singing of these people is immense. It got the audience from the very first. Each one of the selections were applauded. All songs were new save the encores, and all good. The work in one, and a new version of "Nobody" was recalled. The finish was big. They are thorough musicians and well trained. Of their popularity here there is no doubt. They will pull money to the house this week.
