76 76 (handwritten) (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Aug. 13, 1906 Fadettes, 2 shows, 60 min. full stage--Usual new program of selections. I wish to go on record to the fact that I believe this full orchestra we have here this summer, is by far the best we have ever had. Nevertheless, the applause today did not seem to be so universal, even with a good program of selections. Lester and Quinn, 3 shows, 8 min. in 1--Two men, singers and wooden shoe dancers. Their vocalism does not amount to much, but their dancing is excellent, by virtue of which I think they could go into the 2 show section of any bill and make good. Just the sort of an act for this spot, and they went big. Saona, 3 shows, 10 min. in 3--This man has improved his act wonderfully since he was here last. Everyone of his impersonations were strongly applauded, and when he presented the late President McKinley our lady patrons expressed their surprise with plain audible "ohs". Excellent 3-show act which we will put into the body of the bill tonight John Hazzard, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--Monologue comedian and story teller. This chap was a lot of new, bright material which he delivered in quite an original way. Got a big lot of laughter and applause today, and we will move him down the bill for the night show. The Gleesons and Fred Houlihan, 2 shows, 16 min. open in 3, close in 1--In a potpourri of singing, dancing and music. These people started off very slow today and only towards the close did they get any amount of applause for their dancing. I believe it was due to the fact that Lester and Quinn preceded them on the bill and the dancing was "queered". Houlihan's piano playing went big. Welch, Mealey and Montrose, 2 shows, 20 min. in 1--Three men, opening with some clever tumbling, going to a screamingly funny baseball burlesque and closing with a living arch. Scored big laughing and applause hit in the spot. their baseball burlesque being extremely funny. Doubly serviceable act from the fact that it works in 1. E R. Philipps, 2 shows, 16 mins. in 3--In the farcical sketch, "Her Busy Day". Been commented upon in the other houses. If ever a woman queered an act, this woman does this one. The sketch should not be allowed to go further with her in it. In spite of that fact, it got some laughs today. Will have it go before the Fadettes tonight. Alf Grant and Ethel Hoag, 2 shows, 20 min. in 1--Presenting "A Little of Everything", which is just about what they do. I think this was a little too stiff a spot for them, and have moved them up for the night show. (Page underneath......) Al Burton, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1--Monologue and singing comedian. Well-known on the circuit. Too good an act to be wasted in such a spot as this. Comment:- The show I think will pan ojt to be quite a good one. I expect The Gleesons will pull out in the night show in good shape on rearrangement. Our 3-show section is exceptionally strong, I wish it might continue. The attendance was excellent this afternoon in spite of the fact that we had very good weather, and I see no reason why it should not continue for the balance of the week.
