93 New York Criticism Cont'd. Aug. 27th '06 [1906] ROONEY SISTERS Two young girls, making a very pleasing appearance, nicely costumed. Greatly improved since last here. As usual caught the crowd on their dancing and closed to strong applause. 10 min. in one. MAUD TURNER GORDON Presenting the one-act playlette "Mrs. S. Holmes, Detective" written by Ruth Bryan Leavitt, daughter of William Jennings Bryan. As an advertising medium this act will be a financial success. The woman worked to disadvantage this afternoon on account of the non-appearance of a member of her company. The new man forgot his lines and worked very bad in general. Miss Gordon is not a star actress by any means, although she held her own. The act is quite a novel idea, nothing sensational, but pleases. Presume it will develop into a pleasing sketch for the circuit as a second headline feature. 23 min. Full stage. Clifford & Burke As usual this act was the laughing hit of the show. Have a lot of new material and the eccentric dancing caught the crowd. 20 min. Drop in one. ELLIS-NOWLIN TRIO Well known. Excellent rapid-fire closing act. All of their acrobatic stunts strongly applauded. Comedy end got a great many laughs. 8 min. Full stage. KINETOGRAPH Coronation of King Alphonse Good The Royal Bull Fight Very interesting Royal Review. Good.
