3.- NORTON & NICHOLSON, in "Ella's all right":-19 min. F.S. 2 shows. This is a rather dowdy sketch which concerns the seamy side of the domestic life of a shop-girl and the floor walker. The paltry surroundings and the sloppy house-keeping is somewhat exaggerated and might be lightened a little without taking away from the fun. There is a good deal of character humor in the sketch which is written, I fancy, close to life, and NOrton and Nicholson get all there is out of it. The laughs were frequent and the finish was strong. With a little toning down, think that the sketch will pass muster with people who are sensitive about a vulgar side of domesticity. FOUR CARTMELLS, singing and Dancing:- 22 min. open in 1. close F.S. 2 shows. The humorous songs in 1 were good and kept the audience in good humor. The work in F.S. includes a very stunning dance by one of the Cartmell girls in a very fetching costume. The trio's dancing at the close was immense and brought an encore. This act has much improved since it's last appearance here. Got four encores. MAY BELFORT, Character Comedienne:- 14 min. in 1. 2 shows. Makes a very stunning appearance in a superb costume. Took the audience immediately and held their interest through three songs and a recitation. In fact, she seems to have caught on to the American spirit, and is a much stronger feature than when here before. She received five curtain calls. WILLIS FAMILY, Musical:- 20 min.F.S. closes in 1. 2 shows. Four people, two men and two women, all of good appearance, the girls making one change of costume. The musical work of this quartette is undeniably of a very high order. They are all versatile and strong in every feature. Parts consist of solos, duets and quartettes of piccolo, violin, drums, pipe chimes, and banjos. Their selections got a rousing hand from all parts of the house I think they are the only rivals of the Musical Cuttys that have appeared in this theatre. The finish in 1 consisted of a banjo quartette which was given a big hand. A.1. for any house. NED NYE, and HIS ROLLICKING GIRLS: --23 min. F.S. 2 shows. this feature was not properly rehearsed and consequently did not make the hit that we expected. Nye's fun seemed to be a little bit forced and rather monotonous in his imitations of Dan Daly. Coming after the foregoing excellent features, it took some little time for Nye and the girls to get a hold of their audience However, there were some very pretty numbers in the act and the girls make a good showing in the matter of personaly appearance. There were only four of the girls, the other two being shy. Miss D'Arville met with an accident. Her dancing would have brought up the feature considerably. Will give a supplementery report on this act, as it is no satisfactory for a headline place, and if it can be pulled up to that standard,-- all well and good. the swing song and scene was the biggest hit and got quite an ovation. The finish was good, with two curtain call.
