130. OCT. 8, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. MAYBELLE MEEKER, Acrobatic Novelty:- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:40.- Pretty girl making a very good presentation. Well costumed and fine figure. Opens with a sprightly song, although her voice is not up to the standard. Follows with some very good dancing and some acrobatic work that received some applause. Got by with a moderately fair hand. ARLINGTON COMEDY FOUR, Vocalists and dancers:- 16 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:50. Four men working in messenger-boy costumes, one of them blackface. This act started rather weak, but gathered strength as it went along. Comedy is a little shy, but their dancing is good and won considerable applause. Closed satisfactorily. JULIA REDMOND & COMPANY, "Too much married":- 23 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 7:06. This act began rather weak and continued to be slow through the first half. Then it began to gather interest and got some scattered laughs up to a big finish when the real babies were brought on, the kids being the real hit of the act. There are five people in the cast, all of about the same standard of merit, no one of them making an especial hit. There were some bright lines in the little play, but the first half is lacking in business which seems to make it lag. The act could be much improved by shortening a third in the first part. Closed strong. THE BALZERS, Acrobatic Wizards:- 8 min. F.S. 2 shows. on at 7-42. Use a pedestal, bounding board and mat. These people are the real goods in the acrobatic line. Their work is finished and novel. Each one of their different stunts got good applause, and the finish was surprisingly good for this sort of an act. It sadly lacks comedy which would enhance its value to any house. ADELMANNS, Xylophonists:- 14 min. in 2. 2 shows. On at 7:51. This is a very interesting feature for any Vaudeville bill. They work in two entirely. Have three large xylophones, and a stand with a snare drum. Adelmann is certainly the Creature of the xylophone. I think that the fact that he is a fine looking chap with an abundance of light hair bounding all over his head gives the audiences the impression that he is working very hard to please them which adds much to the act. More than that, he is an artist. The woman is charmingly costumed. The snare drum number received good applause and the final number which includes patriotic songs, went big. Closed with three curtain calls. THE GEMS, English Entertainers:- 12 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:06. Comprise five people, two pretty girls in becoming green and lavender costumes, and three men in full dress, one the comedian, makes two changes of costume during the act. There is very little coherence in the act, but it is rapid and sprightly, full of music and fun. The auto song was a novelty and got good applause. The finish was strong with three curtain calls. This act will go best with evening audiences. their merit. It was rather a necessity on our part to balance the bill.
